Traveling around Gangneung, Duruduru and Chapchap were craving something warm and filling for breakfast that would still sit light on the stomach — maybe because the temperature swing had gotten so big that day.

So! We headed to Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village (강릉전복해녀마을), near Gangmun Beach, where you can get pressure-cooker abalone porridge and a haenyeo table. Here's our review, from the vibe of the place to the menu. Let's go!
Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village location, parking and hours
Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village is located at 286-1 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea, open 09:30–20:30 with no break time and last order at 19:30. It's near Gangmun Beach and Gyeongpo Beach, making it easy to fit into a Gangneung itinerary.
It's also a convenient spot if you're looking for a meal near St. John's Hotel or Sky Bay Hotel. We were staying at Shilla Monogram, and it took about 5 minutes by car to get to Jeonbok Haenyeo Village!😊

You can park at the Solhyang Food Town parking lot, with up to 2 hours free. Hours run from 9:30am to 8:30pm, no break time, last order at 7:30pm. Since it opens in the morning, it's also a great fit if you're looking for breakfast during a Gangneung trip.
Is Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village spacious, with group seating?
Walking into Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village, the interior was more spacious than I expected.

The space is split across the 1st and 2nd floors, with plenty of tables.
There's also seating for groups, which makes it great for family trips or visits with parents, and it seemed like a solid choice for group meals in Gangneung with several people.😎
Interior with framed photos of haenyeo divers
The overall vibe was clean, and the haenyeo (female free-divers) interior was striking! The framed photos felt powerful, carrying the life and years of the haenyeo divers so vividly that it made my heart feel a little heavier, in a good way🤭

Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village menu and order minimums
The signature dish at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village is, of course, the pressure-cooker abalone porridge.🤓 Let's take a look at the menu, shall we?

The menu ranged from sets that come with the haenyeo table to combos including butter-grilled abalone. Abalone porridge can be ordered from 2 servings, while abalone-perilla seaweed soup can be ordered starting from 1 serving.

What comes in the haenyeo spread with abalone porridge for two
We ordered the pressure-cooker abalone porridge for two at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village. The haenyeo table that comes with the porridge is quite generous.😎

It comes with over 12 different dishes, including boiled pork, seafood, and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) — the table practically buckles under it all😎 — and the freshness goes without saying. The chewy sea cucumber and raw abalone sashimi, plus the perfectly boiled whelk (gulp), already make me want more🤭

We were told the haenyeo table isn't a fixed set of repeating dishes — the lineup changes depending on the season and the ingredients available.
How does the pressure-cooker abalone porridge taste?
With the abalone porridge, the table set is complete~~ The abalone porridge at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village had really plump, tender abalone! The savoriness and depth of flavor were outstanding🤟
We were told they only use live abalone measuring 13 chi (a traditional size unit), never frozen abalone.

Pairing a warm bowl of abalone porridge with small bites of the side dishes made for a much richer meal.🤟
Abalone porridge pressure-cooked at each table as soon as you order
What impressed me most at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village was how the abalone porridge is made. Instead of ladling out a big batch made in advance, they start pressure-cooking it fresh at each table only once the order comes in.😎
It's a method that takes real effort and a bit more time to cook, but that's exactly why the porridge's flavor and umami come through so much richer.🤭
Verdict: Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village for breakfast near Shilla Monogram
Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village isn't just a place to eat a bowl of abalone porridge — its biggest strength is being able to enjoy freshly pressure-cooked porridge together with a hearty haenyeo table.🤓 With a spacious layout across two floors and solid group seating, it's also an easy place to visit with family or parents.☺️

If you're looking for a hearty, not-too-heavy meal during your Gangneung trip, or a Gangneung breakfast near Gangmun Beach, this place is well worth a visit.😊 Seriously recommend it! You have to go and try the rich, savory abalone porridge and the fresh seafood! Trust me on this one!😎
