Sangam kalguksu restaurant with perilla oil fried rice: Deungchon
In short
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch is a shabu kalguksu (Korean knife-cut noodle hot pot) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Woori Technology Building in Mapo, Seoul, serving spicy, clear and perilla broths. The writer ordered the spicy kalguksu with shabu beef added and ate the full course — minari and mushroom shabu, kalguksu noodles, then egg fried rice — and collected the Naver reservation and receipt review gifts. From the spicy broth to the perilla oil-scented fried rice, Deungchon delivered a meal with no weak link.

I'd been craving a spicy broth for days. And when I think spicy broth, Deungchon Kalguksu comes to mind — so here's my review of Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch. They say the familiar taste is the scariest, and Deungchon Kalguksu is one of my favorite spots that never disappoints, no matter when I go. This time too, I enjoyed the full course properly!

Ordering spicy kalguksu with shabu beef added
At Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch you can choose between spicy, clear, and perilla kalguksu. We went with the spicy kalguksu :)

The kalguksu comes with noodles and fried rice included :) Add shabu beef on top and you're set. You know adding shabu beef is a must whenever you come to Deungchon, right? Kalguksu alone leaves you wanting more — the meat is what deepens the broth's flavor!

How to eat Deungchon shabu kalguksu in the right order

Mix wasabi and soy sauce to make the dipping sauce

The fried rice at Deungchon is the real deal!

🥢 What the meal tasted like
1. Spicy broth loaded with minari and mushrooms
The spicy broth at Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch is packed with minari (water dropwort) and mushrooms. Once the pot starts boiling, the fragrant minari aroma hits your nose.

The crunch of the minari and the texture of the mushrooms blend together — from the first bite, it felt like my insides were being cleared out.
Dip the added shabu beef lightly along with the minari and mushrooms into the wasabi soy sauce and… honestly, that combination speaks for itself.

2. Kalguksu noodles in the broth once it turns richer
After eating a good amount of the vegetables and beef, it's time for round two — dropping in the kalguksu noodles!
With the broth now deeply infused with beef stock, the noodles soaked up the flavor perfectly — chewy and properly spicy.

Topping it off with a bit of geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi) at this point is absolute perfection.

3. The highlight: nutty perilla oil egg fried rice
Honestly, it's not an exaggeration to say 50% of the reason I come to Deungchon is this fried rice.
Once you finish the kalguksu, ask the owner to make fried rice — they'll leave a little broth in the pot, take it away, and bring back fluffy, nutty egg fried rice.
How to enjoy it ✔️ Save some of the spicy broth and dip the fried rice into it lightly — it's a whole other delicacy 👍🏻

I finished it off completely with the perilla oil-scented fried rice, scraping the pot clean to the bottom!
💭 Final verdict on Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch is consistently hearty and delicious every time I go! From the spicy broth to shabu-shabu, kalguksu, and the nutty fried rice, it's a full course you can always count on.
If you're in Sangam-dong craving a good meal, a warm and spicy broth, definitely pay a visit! Would I return: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (100%)
