Songdo Triple Street bakery after 6 p.m.: first butter tteok, Tomoru

Tomoru Bakery (송도토모루베이커리) is a bakery near Triple Street in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon, run by a Korean master baker. The writer visited Tomoru Bakery just after 6 p.m. on a weekday, found plenty of bread still on the shelves, and took home the BEST-labeled pollock roe and green onion baguette plus a first-ever butter tteok (buttery rice cake). Ansan kimchi jjigae on a hot day with unlimited fish cake: Choburi

Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi, specializing in kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and pot rice. On a sweltering summer day, the writer fought heat with heat over mushroom kimchi jjigae, pot rice, a perilla-oil fried egg and a chive buckwheat pancake, and especially liked the cool, air-conditioned dining hall and the self-serve bar with unlimited fish cake and broth. The deep broth from well-aged kimchi and the pot rice both passed the test, making Choburi Kimchi Jjigae worth another stop when passing through Ansan.

Rainy-day hangover pho and tangy beef fried rice in Suwon: Madam Hao

Madam Hao is a Vietnamese restaurant on World Cup-ro 193beon-gil near Ajou University in Suwon, Gyeonggi. On a rainy summer day the writer ordered beef pho and beef fried rice, both priced in the ₩10,000s and served in generous portions, and the hot broth settled a stomach left over from drinking the night before. The tangy beef fried rice, which tastes as if the kimchi were rinsed before frying, is Madam Hao's most unusual dish.
