First meal of the summer holiday after crossing Misiryeong Pass
Hi everyone~ today I'm sharing the first restaurant we ate at on our Gangwon-do trip, which doubled as Eunwoo's birthday and our summer vacation — Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu! We came in via Misiryeong Pass and traffic was so bad the whole way we kept groaning "ugh, I'm starving..." haha.
As soon as we came off Misiryeong we were basically right next to the sundubu village! We went to Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, which has been famous in the sundubu village for ages. I was craving chodang sundubu so badly.. haha
A big sign catches your eye along the street in the sundubu village. The parking lot is really wide and big so no need to worry 😋 We arrived in Sokcho right at lunchtime. When you come to Sokcho, you've gotta eat chodang sundubu~~🤎 Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, famous as a Sokcho lunch spot. 🤎

On both sides of the entrance to Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu there's a waiting area and a spot for a coffee after your meal.
The hall is really, really big. Perfect for group parties or gatherings. It feels like two buildings combined 🤭
Self-serve banchan bar: refill as much as you like
This is the self-serve bar. The banchan (side dishes) were so tasty and I loved that I could grab as much as I wanted without worrying^^ haha. If you want more japchae, just ask a staff member and they'll kindly refill it for you. 🤎
It's like Gangwon-do tofu has honey drizzled on it — tofu I never touch at home except in stew, I suddenly want to eat this much when I'm in Gangwon-do 🤣 Seeds, salted squid jeotgal, and pollock hoe-muchim (spicy seasoned raw pollock) are also available for delivery 🫶🏻

The banchan and sundubu arrived 🤤 Every single side dish was delicious and I really loved the buckwheat crepe.. 🤎 I'm especially a killer for squid jeotgal and mireuk-julgi (seaweed stem), and they were so good. One bowl of rice, gone just like that haha
What the chodang sundubu tastes like
As soon as I saw it I was already imagining drizzling soy sauce over it.. 🤤 So soft and silky 🤍
Drizzle a little soy sauce on and eat it with kimchi, you don't even need rice 🥹🤎 So savory and clean-tasting, I just kept eating..!
What's in the jjamppong seafood sundubu
The seafood jjamppong sundubu is a real rice-thief. The savory depth, the spicy kick, and the rich seafood flavor were all a perfect score.
Packed with seafood too. Scallops, shrimp, abalone — I got full just fishing out all the ingredients.
I slurped my chodang sundubu down to the bottom and, still full, went on to fish out all of my husband's leftover jjamppong sundubu too 🤣 It's just too good, what am I supposed to do.. 🤎🤎🤎 Eunwoo also ate a lot of rice with chodang sundubu and banchan, which made me so proud*
Healthy snacks at the entrance and the swallows above the door
Near the entrance there were lots of tasty healthy snacks. Normally I'd buy one or two, but we were so stuffed.. 😋 haha. For someone with old-man taste buds like me, this is a snack shop I just can't walk past..!! haha but with all the banchan refills too, I was way too full 🥲
After paying, a staff member pointed out a swallow nesting above the entrance. It had been so, so long since I'd seen a swallow, it made me really happy 🤎 So cute... 🥹🤎
Ate well, saw a swallow! Maybe something good is coming our way in Gangwon-do~~? Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, often mentioned as a top Sokcho breakfast or lunch spot! There are plenty of sundubu restaurants in the sundubu village, but I recommend Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu as the best of the best among Sokcho tofu restaurants. 😊
