We didn't even need to think twice — we went straight for the restaurant's crowning signature dish, the 'Vitality Seafood Bomb Shabu Jangkalguksu for 2'! 🦪🐙

The vitality seafood bomb shabu jangkalguksu, ₩25,000 per person
Not long after we ordered, a massive hot pot was placed on the burner, and the moment it arrived, my jaw dropped 😲! I instantly understood why it's called the 'seafood bomb.'

Inside the pot was a whole live, fresh abalone still moving, along with tender octopus, plump scallops, clams, and a whole mountain of assorted seafood 🐙🦪! On top of that, the broth base was made with bracken fern and sanghwang mushroom, which had a subtle, deep aroma that hit you right away.

Step one: seafood shabu-shabu with abalone, octopus and scallops
Step one is enjoying the seafood shabu-shabu first! As the owner instructed, once the broth started boiling, we began fishing out the lightly cooked seafood piece by piece. The still-wriggling abalone was chewy yet tender the moment it hit my mouth, and the octopus and scallops had zero fishy smell, so fresh you could taste the sea in every bite 🌊 There was so much seafood that it just kept coming — such a happy experience!

Step two: potato-flour noodles in the spicy jangkalguksu broth
Step two, the grand finale: spicy, rich jangkalguksu! After you've mostly worked through the seafood, it's finally time to drop the noodles into that fully-infused, deep broth 🍜! They add Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu's special potato-flour dough noodles and let it all bubble away, and the rich broth — infused with seafood, mung bean sprouts, and sanghwang mushroom — soaks right into the noodles.
The moment I slurped a mouthful... wow, this is genuinely art 👏! The broth isn't just spicy — the umami of the seafood and the deep flavor of the jang (fermented paste) come together into something incredibly rich yet smooth on the tongue. The noodles stayed chewy right to the end without going soft, so I scraped up every last drop of broth 😋

Is there parking at Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu?
There are restaurant-owned parking spaces plus nearby alley parking available. If you want to check parking availability before visiting, it's a good idea to call the restaurant ahead 🅿️

How long is the wait, and what is the restaurant like inside?
We visited slightly off peak hours, and even then, customers kept streaming in — living up to its reputation as a top Sokcho jangkalguksu spot! On weekends or during lunch peak hours (12–1pm), there may be a wait, so I'd recommend checking CatchTable or the on-site waiting system and arriving a bit early. The restaurant stayed clean and comfortable throughout, so even waiting felt exciting ✨

Final verdict on Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu
If you're tired of the standard jangkalguksu you always end up eating on every Sokcho trip, Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu isn't optional — it's a must 🌟 Enjoying live, fresh seafood shabu-style and then finishing with jangkalguksu made from that rich broth felt like a proper course meal, and honestly, worth every won. It's also a great restaurant to bring your parents to in Sokcho, or a lovely spot for a Sokcho date. If you're planning a Sokcho trip, definitely stop by! Highly recommend 👍
