Nam-gu, Ulsan rice cake shop, injeolmi for parents: Baekho Tteokbang

In short

Baekho Tteokbang is a pumpkin injeolmi (chewy rice cake coated in powder) shop on the 1st floor of the Geukdong Star Class building on Beonyeong-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan. The writer took home a medium baekho tteok (8,000 won) and a medium heukho tteok (8,500 won) to share with their parents, and sampled baekho tea at Baekho Tteokbang. The chewy pumpkin injeolmi topped with castella or black sesame powder makes Baekho Tteokbang a good pick for return gifts or presents.

Nam-gu, Ulsan pumpkin injeolmi rice cake shop, great for return gifts: Baekho Tteokbang

I heard there was an Ulsan rice cake shop that makes everything daily with quality ingredients, so I went to check it out. The chewy texture plus the gentle sweetness of sweet pumpkin was really satisfying. My parents tried it with me and couldn't stop praising it. Since it also comes in fancy packaging, it's a hit as an Ulsan gift or return-gift option — let me introduce this Sinjeong-dong, Ulsan rice cake shop right away 👐

What's the vibe like inside Baekho Tteokbang?

The inside of Baekho Tteokbang had a warm, cozy feel with Korean touches everywhere. It was my first time seeing a rice cake shop with this much emotional interior design, so it left a strong impression.

Looking at the origin label board, most of the ingredients were domestically sourced, which gave me even more confidence.

Let's take a closer look at Baekho Tteokbang :) All the rice cakes are made with a pumpkin injeolmi (chewy pounded rice cake) base — topped with castella powder it's baekho tteok, with black sesame powder it's heukho tteok, and with mugwort castella powder it's ssukho tteok. By the way, ssukho tteok is a new menu item that launched not long ago, so you can enjoy it extra fresh. Sizes come in small, medium, and large, and small is pre-order only, so keep that in mind.

Besides the rice cakes, they also have baekho tea made with 100% domestic pumpkin, red beans, and brown rice, plus sweet pumpkin sikhye (rice punch) and sweet pumpkin milk. I got to try the baekho tea as a sample, and it was really tasty — the gentle sweetness of pumpkin up front, then a nutty finish.

Takeout containers of baekho tteok and heukho tteok

Everything looked delicious so it was hard to choose, but I ended up picking baekho tteok and heukho tteok. Let's hurry home and eat!

Mini fork and castella powder inside the lid

There was a mini fork inside the lid, which felt like a thoughtful touch for whoever's eating. The container was packed full of castella powder — you know you have to coat the rice cake generously in the powder for the best flavor, right? 👀✨

Let's try the baekho tteok first. It's a cute bite-sized piece, perfect for popping in your mouth all at once. I gave it a light poke with the fork and could feel just how chewy it was. My expectations shot up before I'd even taken a bite.

Generous portion of injeolmi inside the baekho tteok

Covered in powder, you couldn't really tell, but there was actually quite a generous amount of rice cake, making it filling. Taking a bite — wow, it was so good I couldn't help but say it out loud!

As you can see in the clip, the rice cake stretches out beautifully. It's chewy to the point of being almost impossibly chewy, and the balance with the mild sweetness of the pumpkin was really nice. I could immediately tell why baekho tteok is Baekho Tteokbang's bestseller.

Heukho tteok (medium), ₩8,500, even my dad raved about the black sesame

Now let's try the heukho tteok. It's generously topped with black sesame powder, giving it a distinctly different look from the baekho tteok. Since I have an old-lady palate that loves nutty flavors like black sesame, mugwort, or sesame in general, I was even more curious how it would taste.

The base is the same pumpkin injeolmi as the baekho tteok, but with just the topping powder swapped for black sesame, and the moment I took a bite, that nutty flavor spread through my mouth. My dad tried it too and raved that it was delicious — he said the texture of the black sesame powder popping as you chew was really appealing.

I tried it too and was surprised at how good it was — the black sesame powder was honestly the real kicker 👍 The sweet pumpkin injeolmi paired perfectly with the black sesame's deepening nuttiness the more you chewed. Personally, I really hope you get to try this one.

Baekho Tteokbang as an Ulsan return-gift rice cake, final thoughts

Square shot of baekho tteok and heukho tteok from Baekho Tteokbang

Made daily with quality ingredients — 100% Ulsan Bokjori glutinous rice, sweet pumpkin, black sesame and more — I could taste all that care in every bite. With both the upscale packaging and the flavor being so satisfying, this is a place that works well as a gift or an Ulsan return-gift rice cake. If you're looking for a good Ulsan rice cake shop, I confidently recommend Baekho Tteokbang ❤
