Brunch café near Ulsan City Hall for sandwiches: Benetto

I stopped by Benetto (베네또) with my husband and children after a weekend trip to a kids’ café. We wanted something more filling than a snack without being too heavy, so we ordered sandwiches and drinks. The café was fairly quiet that day, and we could take our time eating together.

How close is it to Ulsan City Hall, and where did we park?

Benetto is near City Hall in Nam-gu, Ulsan. Its yellow sign on a brick building stood out, so it was easy to find. There is no dedicated parking, so we parked at City Hall on our weekend visit and walked over. It took about five minutes.

The café serves warm grilled sandwiches and coffee made with specialty beans it blends and roasts itself. When we visited, all drinks were ₩1,000 off for takeout.

Was it comfortable for a weekend meal with children?

The tables were neatly arranged, and the café was fairly quiet during our weekend visit. We felt comfortable sitting down for brunch with the children.

There was an open kitchen toward the back, so we could catch glimpses of the drinks and sandwiches being prepared.

When would I go for a wider sandwich selection?

We chose our sandwiches from the display case. There was a range of varieties, but many popular sandwiches were already gone when we arrived a little after lunchtime. The smaller selection was disappointing. If you want more varieties to choose from, I think arriving earlier than we did would be better.

How much were two sandwiches and two drinks?

We ordered a jambon (ham) basil sandwich, a barbecue chicken sandwich, an iced café latte, and an iced strawberry latte. The total came to ₩28,500.

The sandwiches were bigger than I expected. My husband and I shared both, and considering their size and the amount of filling, the price felt reasonable.

The tray also came with individually wrapped plastic gloves. Wearing them to hold the sandwiches helped keep sauce and fillings off our hands, which was handy when eating with the children.

Instead of pickles, the sandwiches came with bangul-tomato jorim (stewed cherry tomatoes). They were sweet and tangy, a nice accompaniment between bites of sandwich.

Since it was our first visit, I asked the owner for a recommendation. They said the jambon basil sandwich was one of the more popular orders, so I chose it.

The bread was mild and chewy, with salty jambon and the aroma of fresh basil in the filling. It wasn’t overly salty for my taste, and the basil gave it a clean finish. The generous filling made even one piece more satisfying than I expected.

How did the barbecue chicken sandwich taste?

The barbecue chicken sandwich my husband chose had tender chicken with a sweet and salty barbecue flavor.

The chicken also had a spicy note that went well with the stretchy cheese. It tasted quite different from the sandwich centered on jambon and basil, so it was fun to share and try both.

How were the two lattes?

The iced café latte’s nutty coffee aroma went well with the sandwiches. The iced strawberry latte was sweet and smooth, making it nice to share with the children.

Coffee beans were also for sale in one part of the café. I was told that a bean purchase came with an Americano.

What stood out after our family brunch?

On a day when a snack wouldn’t have been enough, the sandwiches and drinks made a filling meal. The quiet atmosphere that day and small conveniences like the plastic gloves made eating with the children easier. Next time, though, I’d like to arrive earlier, when there might be more sandwiches left to choose from.
