Korean BBQ in Seomyeon, Busan: tender, staff-grilled pork neck, Don J
In short
Don J Busan Seomyeon is a retro-style Korean BBQ restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan, that grills pork on a cauldron-lid griddle. Two of us shared one pork neck and belly set (38,000 won) plus country-style doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and pork rice, and because the Don J staff grilled the meat from start to finish, the pork neck came out tender rather than dry. If you want good meat and attentive service in Seomyeon, Don J Busan Seomyeon is a solid choice.

What kind of Korean BBQ restaurant is Don J Busan Seomyeon?
Don J Busan Seomyeon (돈제이 부산서면점) is a cauldron-lid pork BBQ restaurant at 52 Gaya-daero 784beon-gil, Busanjin-gu, Busan, on the 1st floor. It is open daily 17:00-01:00, and for parking you can use the Samhwan parking lot.

Today I'm introducing a Seomyeon restaurant I was really happy with. I love meat, so every time I go to Seomyeon I hunt for a new BBQ place, and this time Don J Busan Seomyeon had great food and great service from the staff too.

Cauldron-lid griddle and a retro setting at Don J
The first thing I saw when I walked into Don J Busan Seomyeon was the huge cauldron-lid griddle‼️ Meat grilled on a cauldron lid just has a different atmosphere, you know? It would work for a get-together with friends, a company dinner or a date~
I especially loved the retro feel of the place! And the staff were so kind that it's a Seomyeon spot I want to visit often.

The water is barley tea, my favorite… 🩷

Pork belly grilled on a cauldron lid can't possibly taste bad 💕💕💕
What side dishes come with Korean BBQ at Don J Busan Seomyeon?
The kimchi at Don J Busan Seomyeon is especially good, and a variety of side dishes like bean sprouts and myeongina-mul (wild garlic-like greens) come with the meat. This side dish lineup is one of the reasons I like Don J the most out of all the BBQ places in Seomyeon!! Eaten together with the meat, it's honestly so good.

Lettuce and perilla leaves 💕 Personally I like wrapping in the perilla leaf more!

Grilling potatoes, kimchi and bean sprouts together on the cauldron lid is seriously delicious…!

When you dip the meat in this sauce it tastes like pork cutlet, which is so weird but so good.

Is the ₩38,000 pork neck and belly set enough for two?
What I ordered this time was Don J Busan Seomyeon's neck and belly set (₩38,000). Ordering just this one item gets you both neck and belly, which I really liked. I like both cuts, so I had a lovely dinner~~~

Staff grill the pork from start to finish
The best thing about Don J Busan Seomyeon is that the staff grill everything for you from beginning to end. They flip and cut the meat at the tastiest moment, so all you have to do is eat, which was so nice 🫢

Why the pork neck at Don J was tender, not dry
With service like this, there's a reason so many people call it a Seomyeon go-to… I tried the neck first, and from the first bite I thought, wow, it's so tender! I always thought neck was a rather dry cut, but eating at Don J changed my mind 🫢

It can turn dry if grilled badly, but the staff grilled it themselves so it was perfectly cooked and really delicious T_T Then I tried the belly and, no words, it was the best•••
They grilled gosari (bracken fern) and garlic alongside too, and from now on, whenever I think of BBQ in Seomyeon, I'll definitely think of Don J!
The belly had just the right amount of fat rendered off, so it wasn't too greasy, and the meat was tender too, so I thought I'd have to come again!
The kimchi was so good that I ate loads of it T_T haha

Wrapped in a perilla leaf, it's honestly the best!
Two of us shared one griddle, the amount was just right, and overall it was a top-notch Seomyeon restaurant!

How does pork belly taste like pork cutlet?••• So weird…!

Are Don J's doenjang stew and pork rice worth ordering?
For the meal items at Don J Busan Seomyeon, I ordered the country-style doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew, ₩8,000) and pork rice (₩2,000). I finished the meat with a lettuce wrap, and I hadn't planned on the stew at first, but I ordered it anyway and was so glad I did.

- Country-style doenjang stew ₩8,000
- Pork rice ₩2,000
The name "pork rice" is odd so I wondered what it was, and it turned out to come with seaweed and Don J's signature ssamjang (dipping paste). Rice wrapped in seaweed, what more can I say•••
The stew was packed with ingredients and the broth was rich, perfect with rice. I was full but finished every bit. The food was great overall, and above all I was really happy with the service of the staff grilling for you.

If you come to Don J, be sure to order a meal item too!

The tofu in the stew was really big.
Is Don J Busan Seomyeon worth a return visit?
The big plus at Don J Busan Seomyeon was getting to eat the meat at its tastiest, and I liked that the set lets you enjoy neck and belly together 🤤 So next time I crave meat in Seomyeon, I'd love to go again!
We finished with ice cream as a free treat at the end~! If you're looking for a good BBQ place in Seomyeon, I really recommend Don J Busan Seomyeon 👏
