Sinnonhyeon jazz bar with friends: fruit punch and quartet, Flat Nine

Today's post is a review of Flat Nine, famous as a Sinnonhyeon date spot~ I visited with a friend after hanging out in Gangnam, and honestly the romance level here is lethal haha. The vibe was great and the food was delicious! So let's get right into the Flat Nine review ❤️

What the entrance to Flat Nine looks like

Flat Nine is located near Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station! It's about a 5-minute walk from Exit 10 of Gangnam Station or Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station. Super easy to get to by public transit!

It's in a busy commercial area so it wasn't hard to find at all~

The simple sign was memorable! And out front of the building there's a board listing that day's performance lineup~

Seeing the lineup got my heart racing before I even walked in~

Flat Nine is on the 5th floor.

Inside Flat Nine: atmosphere and seating

Inside, the dark space with mood lighting and accent lamps on each table felt really atmospheric!

The stage with the instruments set up is the first thing you see walking in, which really built up the anticipation. The stage looks great too, right?

Most of the tables faced the stage so you could watch the performance haha.

Further inside there's a bar table like this! And I also spotted tables that could fit group parties~ The staff were really kind~ they kindly seated us near the stage.

Flat Nine menu and course prices

Here's the menu~~

You order via the tablet on the table. It seems most people go for a course! And the courses here really are great value!!

The classic course is only ₩39,000!! The signature course was ₩59,000.

I think the difference between the two basically comes down to pork versus beef!

There were also à la carte items like steak and pasta.

Classic course for two: what comes out, and in what order?

What we ordered was~~ classic course for two, fruit punch, and limeade. That's what we went with~~ Since the show starts at 8pm, we arrived around 7:30pm and ordered ahead of time. That way the show started right as our food arrived, roughly midway through!

Aperitif (non-alcoholic option available)

The first thing to arrive after ordering is a pre-dinner drink! You can choose alcoholic or non-alcoholic~ we went non-alcoholic!

It was so refreshingly sweet-tart, it really woke up my appetite. Next came the appetizer!

Appetizer: potato with bread and Korean melon salad

At first I thought, is this a pastry? Haha but no, it was potato! The harmony between the potato and the sauce on top was great!

Next came bread and what looked like a Korean melon salad?

Bread with balsamic oil — need I say more?

I don't usually eat Korean melon much, but this melon salad was genuinely delicious!

The sauce underneath really made the melon shine, so good! These dishes really whetted the appetite!! Now came what you'd really call the mains~

Tomato lasagna

This is the tomato lasagna. At first it looked small, but that was a huge miscalculation, TT the noodles were so chewy!

Piling the noodles with plenty of sauce is basically paradise. This place is really a sauce master. They work magic with sauces, I swear. Even at this point I was already pretty full~

Jeju black pork tenderloin steak

Next up is the real main event — the steak~~ Jeju black pork tenderloin steak~ this was genuinely tender..! I thought it might be a bit tough, but no, it was so soft with a great chew, TT

As expected from a sauce master, eating it with the accompanying sauce was seriously amazing TT. The pairing with the mushrooms and potatoes was excellent too!

Thick, fudgy chocolate dessert

Last up is dessert~ can you see how good it looks, TT

This place is a treat for the eyes too~

I expected it to be light and fluffy, but it was actually a really dense, fudgy cake! The chocolate flavor was so intense~~ pure fudgy chocolate!!

Fruit punch and limeade, the non-alcoholic drinks

The drinks we ordered — lemon ade and fruit punch! The lemon ade was so refreshingly sweet-tart, delicious!

I wondered what the fruit punch would be like, and wow, this drink is seriously amazing!

It's got a kind of yogurt-ish base with a peach aroma haha. A drink with this mysterious, layered sweetness.

The 8pm Brian Shin Quartet jazz set

With that delicious dessert, it was already such an enjoyable meal haha. But this place isn't just about the food!? Right around when the lasagna arrived, the show began!

The band performing that night was the Brian Shin Quartet! I learned that quartet means four people playing together! This particular group was piano, double bass, trumpet, and vocals~

They gave witty little explanations about each song in between~ the MC-ing was so fun too! And above all, the jazz performance itself was such a joy~

My ears were thoroughly treated to the four of them playing together. This time in particular I fell for the charm of the double bass TT — such a captivating instrument!

With delicious food and a joyful live performance together, this time felt truly special. It made me think I'd love to come back here again with someone dear to me.

Is Flat Nine worth it? Final verdict

If you're looking for a great date spot in Seoul~~ if you want somewhere you can eat while watching a jazz performance~ if you want a restaurant with a great atmosphere~
