Gimpo shabu kalguksu restaurant in 4 steps, rice to misutgaru
In short
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a shabu kalguksu (shabu-shabu with knife-cut noodles) restaurant on Geolpo-ro in Gimpo, between Geolpobukbyeon Station and Unyang Station, known for its sanghwang mushroom broth. On a return visit around 6pm on a weekday, the writer ordered the Hansang Gadeuk Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu at ₩19,900 per person. The meal followed Homilwon's four-step way: free beef-mushroom radish rice, then shabu-shabu, then kalguksu and perilla-oil fried rice, finishing with misutgaru (roasted grain drink) for dessert. Verdict: Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu is a Gimpo shabu-shabu spot where you eat healthily, with mild flavours that let the ingredients speak for themselves.

Where is Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, and is there parking?
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch (호밀원샤브칼국수 김포본점) is a standalone building at 142-17 Geolpo-ro, Gimpo, between Geolpobukbyeon Station and Unyang Station, with its own big parking lot. It's a Gimpo shabu-shabu spot with a light, clean sanghwang mushroom broth, the food comes out neat, and it's a great place for get-togethers!
I've been here before and it's still really popular! I'm showing you the exterior of the standalone building and the huge parking lot too. I went around 6pm on a weekday and there were still quite a lot of cars, so keep that in mind!

Homilwon also has restorative dishes like the galbi shabu hot pot and the pollack-sashimi bossam (boiled pork wraps). Okay, let me show you the inside~^^

Is Homilwon good for group gatherings or family meals?
Homilwon has partitioned group seats alongside regular tables, so it suits group gatherings well. When you walk in, pretty landscaping greets you at the entrance~

So many families come here~^^ Shabu-shabu is something both kids and grandparents can enjoy, so I think that's why it's such a popular Gimpo shabu-shabu spot.

Is the beef-mushroom radish rice really free and unlimited?
Homilwon's big selling point~! Beef-mushroom radish rice made with Gimpo rice is unlimited at the self-serve bar~~ Mix in the secret seasoning sauce or gochujang, freshly pressed sesame oil and kimchi, and it's absolutely delicious~^^

4 steps to enjoy Homilwon twice as much
You order on the tablet at each table~ Here's how to enjoy Homilwon twice as much!
- While the broth heats up, mix the beef-mushroom radish rice at the self-serve bar with the bibim sauce and mill-pressed sesame oil.
- Once the broth boils, dip the shabu beef in just briefly and eat it with the sauce.
- Pour in plenty of the broth from the self-serve bar and cook the rye kalguksu noodles for 5 minutes.
- Leave a little broth and stir-fry the perilla oil fried rice, with whole perilla seeds popping and a rich, nutty flavor.

How much is the menu at Homilwon?
The basic shabu kalguksu at Homilwon is just ₩12,900, a very affordable price, and what we chose was the Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu, which comes with sanghwang mushroom shabu kalguksu plus jjukkumi (baby octopus) stir-fry and bossam.

The Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu is ₩19,900 per person and gives you a generous spread with warm boiled pork and smoky-flavored jjukkumi stir-fry~^^ Hot-broth shabu-shabu, spicy baby octopus and warm pork, what a great combination, right?

Beef-mushroom radish rice with gochujang and yeolmu
After ordering, I quickly went to make my beef-mushroom radish rice haha. I added gochujang and yeolmu (young radish kimchi). Doesn't it look even tastier~ ^^

What comes in the ₩19,900 Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu?
The Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu starts with the sanghwang mushroom shabu-shabu pot, followed by the warm bossam and jjukkumi stir-fry. Even before the bossam and jjukkumi arrived, the sanghwang shabu-shabu alone looked huge~^^

I'll prep the vegetables so they're easy to eat, and add the meat once it boils~
Warm bossam and jjukkumi stir-fry
And then the warm bossam and jjukkumi stir-fry!! Tender warm pork plus smoky jjukkumi stir-fry, so even if you come with a group, these dishes will win everyone over~

A hearty table is complete~! haha

How did the sanghwang mushroom shabu broth taste?
Homilwon's sanghwang mushroom broth is light yet deep, and the beef and vegetables dipped in the sauce were really tender. As soon as the broth came to a boil, I put in the beef first~

While the beef cooks, you can enjoy the jjukkumi stir-fry and bossam, so there's no time to get hungry at this Gimpo shabu-shabu spot. I'd already finished my appetizer(?) with the beef-mushroom radish rice

Taking out the beef and vegetables and dipping them in the sauce, I was impressed again by how tender they were~^^ The sanghwang broth is light yet deep, which made it even better.

Do you have to choose between kalguksu and fried rice?
At Homilwon both noodles and fried rice are included, so there's nothing to agonize over. After you've finished the shabu-shabu, add the noodles and boil them~ No need to choose between kalguksu or fried rice, because they give you the fried rice too!

Add the fried rice, press it down, and eat it piping hot, it's the best! The perilla oil fried rice is mild, but depending on your taste it's also good with the jjukkumi sauce or other kimchi and side dishes^^

Is there a dessert and a review event?
Homilwon has a cold, self-serve misutgaru dessert, and if you write a Naver review you get free cinema popcorn. See how I cleaned my plates~ And there's a self-serve dessert too!

It's cold misutgaru (roasted grain drink)~^^ In summer you've got to have this. And if you write a Naver review, you get free cinema popcorn haha
As for the Homilwon shabu kalguksu I tried, I'd describe it as a Gimpo shabu-shabu spot where you can eat healthily, with the natural flavor of the ingredients rather than anything harsh~^^
