Traveling through Gongju and wanting a place with lots of menu options and easy dining! This is Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch, a well-known Gongju donkatsu (pork cutlet) spot where we filled up on ramen and rice bowls — good value and seriously filling.

Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch is at 67 Gongjudaehak-ro, 1st floor, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do, right in front of the main gate of Gongju National University. Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch is right across the street from the parking lot. Being directly in front of the university gate, it's a budget-friendly noodle place that everyone from students to local residents seems to frequent.
Honestly one of the go-to budget Japanese restaurants in our area already haha. Weirdly I never seem to crave pho, but with donkatsu it's got to be ramen~! Or soba!!! Hahaha

Myeonsikdang has such a clean, pretty interior. There are tables perfect for solo dining plus various setups for eating with a group. And since Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch is apparently famous as a Gongju donkatsu spot, I was extra excited since I love pork cutlet.
Water comes from a shared purifier, and the great part is you can also get warm udon broth?! A proper Japanese-style soup on the side. For side dishes, you can help yourself to pickled radish and kimchi!
The broth was so tasty we happily helped ourselves, and disposable aprons are also provided.
Every table has a tablet ordering system, so it's easy to order comfortably. Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch is also running a review event giving out a free drink, plus a meal voucher giveaway!
Is Myeonsikdang good for eating out with a child?
Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch has kid chairs and even kid-sized spoons and forks, making it a good Gongju restaurant for a family meal with a little one in tow.
Ordering the chogye soba set, cheese katsu and butadon
I meant to keep it simple, but there were so many tempting menu items that we ended up ordering a ton haha! Since there are set menus, it was nice to sample a variety of side dishes easily — a great Gongju restaurant for that. The new chicken soba was refreshing and delicious! The pork cutlet side was also great.
Of course I didn't forget to order the cheese katsu, which is a personal favorite at Myeonsikdang. They even bring out several kinds of salt to go with it — a tasty, clean dish. Thumbs up for this Gongju donkatsu spot.
Since I wanted something with warm broth, I picked the tonkotsu ramen, plus a rice bowl with that great smoky char. A really satisfying lineup for anyone who loves Japanese-style meals!
And on top of that we added a potato croquette, making the meal even more substantial. Three adults and one child ate their fill that day!
I think it was my first time having soba at Myeonsikdang, and surprisingly the broth was rich and delicious!! The chicken was great too.
You can also ask for scissors to cut food into kid-friendly pieces. With the pork cutlet cut into small bites, my little one happily dipped it in sauce and dug in. The cheese katsu also came with two kinds of sauce, spicy and regular, so there was even more to enjoy during the meal.
How the food tasted at Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch
The ramen broth was clean and the rice bowl was hearty, with surprisingly generous portions. We got to fully enjoy a variety of dishes and tasty fried food that's hard to replicate at home — a great value Gongju restaurant that left us satisfied. Myeonsikdang Gongju University Branch is a place where you can enjoy many different dishes all in one visit :)
