Gwangju katsu restaurant dinner: spicy clam pasta, Filling Donkatsu
In short
Filling Donkatsu Gwangju Cheomdan Direct Store is a pork cutlet (katsu) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Building A, IBC Knowledge Industry Center, in Buk-gu, Gwangju. This dinner visit brought a chuck flap steak bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables) for 20,500 won and a spicy clam tomato spaghetti for 19,500 won, and both the bibimbap tossed in house-made gochujang (red chili paste) and the clean, savory clam pasta hit the mark. With plenty of rice and pasta choices beyond katsu, Filling Donkatsu works well for a group dinner in Cheomdan.

Gwangju Cheomdan dinner restaurant
A katsu restaurant in Cheomdan serving steak bibimbap?
Filling Donkatsu is famous in Cheomdan, Gwangju for its katsu (breaded pork cutlet), but browsing the menu, something else caught my eye — chuck flap steak bibimbap!
A steak bibimbap at a katsu restaurant? I was curious, so I ordered it.

It's on the 2nd floor of Building A in the IBC Knowledge Industry Center, right next to the Gwangju Government Joint Complex.
It's already a well-known spot for katsu.
Picked for the katsu guide Daedon Yeojido
The 《Katsu Grand Atlas》 (돈가스 대돈여지도) is a guidebook by katsu curator 'Donbanggu', who spent five years traveling the country to personally taste and select 100 top katsu restaurants.
Filling Donkatsu made it into this guide as a top katsu spot in Gwangju. Being featured among the countless katsu restaurants nationwide the author actually visited and tasted made me even more excited for the signature katsu.
Where to park at Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan
Parking is available in both the building's above-ground and underground lots. It was easy to visit by car.
I parked underground and entered through the Building A entrance, then took the elevator up to the 2nd floor.
Inside Filling Donkatsu, including the private room
The interior is mostly white with deep green accents, wood tables and rattan chairs.

There's a separate room too, which seems great for a group gathering — good for a Cheomdan dinner meetup.
How ordering works

Ordering is simple via table order — pick your menu right from your seat and order directly.
The menu at Filling Donkatsu

The signature menu includes 200-hour aged tenderloin katsu, low-temp tenderloin katsu, wrap katsu, sweet potato cheese katsu and more. As a katsu specialist, it's a plus that they also offer rice dishes like steak bibimbap, giving you plenty of choice.
What we ordered for dinner
- Chuck flap steak bibimbap ₩20,500
- Clam tomato spaghetti ₩19,500
The table setting and side dishes
Vegetable salad, soup and pickles came out first.
Chuck flap steak bibimbap, 20,500 won
When it arrived, I was surprised by how hearty it looked. Sliced striploin steak came piled high on a plate with chives, sprouts, mushrooms, sesame seeds and an egg yolk.
The steak portion was especially generous, cooked to a moist medium doneness — this bibimbap (mixed rice) felt like the steak was really the main event!
The house-made gochujang was the kicker!
Pop the yolk like this—
Mix it up and take a bite, shall we?
The sweet-spicy sauce, the crunch of the vegetables in every bite, and the tender steak all came together — savory, slightly salty and spicy in perfect harmony.
It felt like a more special version of bibimbap than usual. So healthy, too. A well-mixed bibimbap with nutrient-rich striploin steak for protein — good for you and GOOD~GOOD~~
Spicy clam tomato pasta, 19,500 won

Along with the steak bibimbap, I also ordered the spicy clam pasta.

The red sauce was loaded with pasta noodles and clams,

topped generously with cheese.

The refreshing savory flavor from the clams paired with a spicy sauce.
Picking out the clams one by one was fun too,
and the spicy tomato sauce blended so well with the noodles — I'd recommend it to anyone who's not a fan of heavy, rich spaghetti.
The self bar and dessert
For dessert, I had sweet soft-serve ice cream from the self bar. Sweet and creamy~~
What's on the self bar

The self bar has side dishes and bread ready to go.
Dessert bar: iced americano and soft-serve ice cream

You can help yourself to coffee and ice cream as you like.

Final verdict on Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan
Filling Donkatsu is famous for its katsu as the name suggests, but I liked that it also offers a wide range of menu options beyond katsu.
Being selected for the 《Katsu Grand Atlas》 gives katsu lovers plenty of reason to visit.
The chuck flap steak bibimbap I had was hearty, letting you enjoy plenty of steak and vegetables, and the spicy clam pasta was a nice, unusual dish to order alongside it.
I'd come back. Next time, since it's a spot featured in the Katsu Grand Atlas, I want to try the signature katsu.
When you want katsu but don't want to give up rice or pasta options either, I'd recommend this Cheomdan restaurant for a group visit.
