Pocheon campground with clean showers: rooftop tent night at Byeolbit
In short
Byeolbit Camping Site (별빛캠핑장) is a campground along Damteo Valley in Gwanin-myeon, Pocheon, Gyeonggi, with car camping sites right in front of the valley. The day after Chuseok, the writer spent one night with their parents in a rooftop tent at site B1, enjoying a pork belly barbecue, a campfire and picking freshwater snails in the valley, and was most impressed by how clean the restrooms, showers and sinks stayed day and night. Byeolbit Camping Site is a Pocheon campground worth recommending to families who want quiet, clean car camping.

A Chuseok night of car camping at Byeolbit Camping Site in Pocheon's Damteo Valley
The day after Chuseok (Korean harvest festival), we spent one night car camping with my parents at Byeolbit Camping Site (별빛캠핑장) in Damteo Valley, Pocheon, Gyeonggi. Since last year we've decided to spend Chuseok just with our own family. Last year we took a day trip, and this year a good chance came up, so we did a one-night camping trip to nearby Pocheon~!
Damteo Valley in Pocheon borders Cheorwon, and there are several campgrounds along it~ Among them, Byeolbit, with such a pretty name!

Check-in at Byeolbit: what does the camp store sell?
You check in at the white building at the entrance, and a staff member came out to greet us before we even got there~ Every staff member we met was friendly, and I remember them constantly moving around to keep the campground in shape!

The white building where we checked in also has a small store~ Besides simple snacks and ramyeon (instant noodles), it stocks gas, seasonings, wet wipes and all kinds of disposable items~

The fridge has drinks, alcohol and ice cream, and there's a coffee machine too, FYI~ While looking around the store... I grabbed the one and only bottle of soju (Korean liquor), the "red-cap" one!

It was the day after Chuseok.. and the weather was really nice~ Byeolbit Camping Site in Pocheon's Damteo Valley lets you soak up the blue autumn sky~!

Using a valley-front car camping site with a rooftop tent
Byeolbit's biggest charm is that the car camping sites are right in front of the valley~! We're rooftop tent users, so we took a car camping site. With a rooftop tent, setting up takes about 3 minutes.. but since we had family with us, we set up the tarp properly too

First round: fried dumplings and fried tteok (rice cakes) with a somaek (soju and beer mix)~!

Are the restrooms and showers at Byeolbit really clean?
The restrooms and showers at Byeolbit stayed clean day and night. Since we'd had a nice cold drink, time to check out the facilities~ haha. Facing the building, the women's restroom and showers are on the left, and the men's are on the right~

The restroom... the restroom.... is really clean! The secret to this cleanliness... I think it's run by a family... and the men are seriously quick to get up and do things...
They tidy up whenever they see something, and I liked how everyone pitches in regardless of age~! The restroom stays clean whether you go in the day or at night, and I was amazed the showers are kept so un-humid. The shower space is roomy, and the shelf for toiletries and even the changing basket were dry and tidy, which felt great!!
Trash bags and recycling
Oh! At check-in, Byeolbit gives you a trash bag and a white bag: the trash bag is for general waste, and the white bag is for recycling~ The recycling area was also steadily kept up by someone who seemed to be the owner's wife, and the other campers we stayed with were all clean and well-mannered~ A good campground makes good campers... hahaha

The sinks were clean too
Byeolbit is so clean I'm sick of saying clean.. and these are the sinks~ I think how much the campground keepers lend a hand really decides cleanliness and hygiene.. Honestly, our creed is that camping means getting rolled around outdoors~ but it's not like we dislike clean~ haha, we were very grateful to use it~

Oh! The outdoor sinks are on the left side of the building~ While cleaning the grill.. I got carried away.. and scrubbed away like at home.. lol I retired the wrecked steel wool scrubber and left a new one behind lol (my little conscience.. haha)

Valley play and snail picking in Damteo Valley
Damteo Valley right in front of the Byeolbit sites was running low on water, but thanks to the camp owner's hard work there seemed to be 3 spots kept at a depth good for kids to play~ It would be a shame to just walk past, so we dipped our feet in for a bit! And picked some snails too... Coming with kids would be nice since there's natural stuff to play with. Some people were fishing in the valley, and some kids kept turning over rocks^^

Why I recommend site B1
The reason I sing the praises of site B1 at Byeolbit.. haha is that the path down to the valley is right below, and the store, showers, restrooms and sinks are close by~ We're not very sensitive to noise around us.. so we like having facilities nearby^^ Also, the platform you can faintly see by the valley is a rental platform for day-trip valley play in summer~
While we looked around.. Dad, who's been camping with us a few times... started torching the charcoal.. and before Mom woke from her short nap.. he was pouring the soju we bought... into an empty bottle... pretending to drink only what we'd brought........ haha

Charcoal barbecue menu: pork belly, grilling cheese and squid with pollock roe
Whenever we ask "what should we eat when camping?".. pork belly never gets left out! We grilled charcoal-scented pork belly, ate grilling cheese, ate sausages,

Eating and eating and eating.. I said I had to take photos of the squid with pollock roe we tried for the first time.. lol The dreaded photo time started again, and now even Mom and Dad seem used to it... haha I forgot to put butter on the squid, but the salty pollock roe was so good, I tell you~ haha

Campfire time and Byeolbit at night
After the charcoal barbecue.. a campfire is the truth!! We laid down the easy fire blanket we newly got this time and enjoyed the fire with gusto~
On the way to wash up.. Byeolbit with its lights added looked so atmospheric... A Pocheon campground where you can car camp this pretty, quiet, clean and peaceful, worth recommending, right?!! It's an hour from home, so the trip is no burden, and I've saved it as a place I want to go back to~^^
