Samdeok-dong birthday dinner at Daegu pasta restaurant Burnish Resto
In short
Burnish Resto is a fresh-pasta Italian restaurant in Dongin-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu, a short walk up toward Samdeok-dong from Gyeongbuk National University Hospital Station. For a birthday meal with her sister, the writer reserved a window table and ordered fresh bisque pasta (26,000 won), gnocchi bites (16,000 won) and napa cabbage salad (10,500 won). The three dishes have completely different textures, making the portion and flavour balance just right for two.

Today I went with my sister to celebrate her birthday at a well-known Italian restaurant in Dongin-dong, Daegu! Here's my honest review ><
Where is Burnish Resto in Daegu, and what are its hours?

Burnish Resto is located at 421-1 Dongin-dong 4-ga, Jung-gu, Daegu. Hours are 12:00–21:00 with a break time from 15:00–17:00, and it's closed on Mondays. Corkage and private hire are available, and parking is 1 spot in front on weekdays, or 3 spots in front/side on weekends.

Burnish Resto is in Dongin-dong, a little up from Samdeok-dong if you get off at Gyeongbuk National University Hospital Station! I'd heard it was a famous pasta spot in Dongin-dong so I was super excited haha
Inside Burnish Resto: the reserved window table

As soon as we walked in, it had this clean, upscale restaurant vibe that put me in a great mood haha. Music was playing through big speakers too, which made the atmosphere top-notch!
* The restroom is accessed with an electronic key kept below the counter — once you go through the door, it's up on the right, apparently!

It's an open kitchen, so my trust level went up +1 haha. There's a coat rack in the middle of the hall, which seems handy for hanging outerwear in winter.

I'd made a reservation ahead, and they thoughtfully gave us a window-side table haha. The burgundy table was so stylish and pretty ♥ Nice touch that our reservation name was even written on it ~ ♥
Burnish Resto's menu and what we ordered for two

You order by scanning a QR code to view the menu! There's also a paper menu, which makes it easy to look through haha.

The two of us ordered: fresh bisque pasta, gnocchi bites, and napa cabbage salad. This place is known for fresh pasta in Daegu, so I really recommend ordering at least one fresh pasta dish!!
Bread and pickles before the meal

First, the pre-meal bread came out! It was served warm, and dipping it in olive oil was so good ㅜㅜ Crispy, warm, and clean-tasting — exactly what a pre-meal bread should be. When I paid, I saw in the kitchen that it wasn't store-bought bread but a huge pillow-sized loaf~ I really love a healthy bread haha.
They use Sicilian olive oil, so the oil had this fresh, clean flavor! Nice.

It only took about 10 minutes from ordering to the food arriving! haha (The cabbage pickles were also super tasty lol)

Wow, when they set the food down, the visuals were amazing and the aroma was ~~~ insane ~~~!!!!!!!! Now let me go through each dish one by one!><
How is the napa cabbage salad (10,500 won)?

The napa cabbage salad is ₩10,500, and the crisp texture of the fresh napa cabbage really came through, which I loved. They said the sauce was anchovy sauce — wow, how do I even describe it, it was my first time trying that flavor and it was amazing! Anchovy is kind of like our Korean fermented seafood, salty with deep flavor and a very slight funky note, but so tasty haha. The napa cabbage had a slightly refreshing taste (a tiny bit like baek-kimchi/white kimchi!), and it all came together perfectly with the anchovy sauce, cheese, and chopped bacon on top!!

Salads can easily feel like just a side dish, but this one was the exact opposite — I kept making sure to eat it throughout the meal! It was a side dish that didn't feel like a side dish at all!!
Gnocchi bites (16,000 won): texture and sauce

The gnocchi bites are ₩16,000. Gnocchi's signature chewy, fluffy texture was fun to eat, and they came in bite-sized pieces that were easy to pop in your mouth~ Would be great for a blind date or a date night lol.

What's charming about the gnocchi is you can feel the texture difference between outside and inside in one bite. The outside was slightly crisp or chewy, and the inside was soft, with a nutty flavor rising the more you chewed! Easy to pick up one at a time too, so it'd work well for sharing with a group.

The sauce had a cream base with cheese flavor, so it tasted different from other cream gnocchi I've had! The sauce, crushed pistachios, and the deep potato flavor of the gnocchi went really well together~! Seasoning was spot-on too, chef's really got skill…
Fresh bisque pasta (26,000 won), the birthday main
The fresh bisque pasta is ₩26,000 — being fresh pasta, the price is a bit higher, but once you see the ingredients and taste it, it makes sense lolol. The moment I mixed it, the crustacean aroma was incredible~!!!
* Bisque is a French soup or sauce made by sautéing the shells of crustaceans like shrimp, crab, or lobster, simmering them down richly, then adding cream. The name comes from the French for "twice-cooked," and it's known for its deep crustacean flavor and smooth, rich texture.

As expected of fresh pasta, the texture was noticeably different from regular dried noodles. The noodles themselves were soft yet chewy, so "the sauce clings to the noodles" was the perfect description~! The rich, nutty signature flavor of the bisque sauce was especially striking. The umami from the crustaceans was subtly infused throughout the sauce, so the flavor felt quite intense from the very first bite! The bisque sauce wasn't heavy despite being rich. It had a soft, nutty base with a lingering seafood umami that kept me reaching for more.

The chewy texture of the fresh noodles paired so well with the rich sauce that every time I twirled the noodles, I could really feel the sauce's flavor. If you love seafood, crustaceans, or pasta, this dish should satisfy you!!!
Every single dish we ordered was genuinely delicious, and my sister and I were completely satisfied haha. The portions were just right for two people~ My sister's top pick was the bisque pasta, and if I had to choose, mine would be the gnocchi bites!

The best three-dish combination at Burnish Resto for two people
Overall, the dishes we ordered that day each had a distinct personality~! The fresh bisque pasta's combination of rich, nutty sauce and chewy fresh noodles was the most memorable, while the gnocchi bites were charming for their bite-sized ease and signature chewy, soft texture. The napa cabbage salad was crisp and refreshing, balancing out the richer dishes.
Best of all, having all three dishes together meant the flavors and textures weren't monotonous ^0^ Soft chewy fresh noodles, fluffy-yet-chewy gnocchi, and crisp napa cabbage — with all the textures so different, it felt much richer than sticking to just one dish.
If you love pasta but get a little tired of always ordering the same thing, I'd suggest trying the fresh pasta here. If you especially like rich, nutty seafood flavors, you'll really enjoy the umami of the bisque sauce~ Order the gnocchi bites and napa cabbage salad alongside it and you get both heartiness and freshness — a great combo for splitting dishes with a group too.
It had been a while since I had such a satisfying meal from pasta to sides. Next time I visit, I'm curious about other menu items, but the dishes I enjoyed this day were memorable enough that I'd want to order them again. Perfect for a great meal in Dongin-dong, Daegu, a pasta spot in Dongin-dong, a wedding-invitation get-together in Samdeok-dong, or a date! haha
