Bak Man-bae Arirang Bossam Mokpo Hadang Branch is a gabrisal bossam restaurant near Mokpo's Peace Square in the Hadang/Sangdong area. Visiting with a child around 4pm, the writer ordered a medium half-and-half bossam (반반보쌈) for ₩48,000, which came with complimentary kalguksu, plus self-bar side dishes and puffed rice snacks for dessert. Plenty of side dishes and a mild kalguksu made it an easy, kid-friendly meal.
Hwanggeum Hoe Pocha Gwangju Wolsan Branch is a sashimi and seafood restaurant on Gunbun-ro in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju. A mixed sashimi platter for 1.5 servings costs 45,000 won and a mixed seafood platter 20,000 won, and ordering both with rice and soju filled the table with free side dishes: seaweed soup, grilled herring, mul-hoe (chilled raw fish soup), mak-hoe (chopped raw fish salad) and pancakes you grill yourself. The conger eel, flounder and halibut sashimi and the sea squirt, sea cucumber, whelk and abalone platter were so generous that Hwanggeum Hoe Pocha is worth a second visit.
