Shin Ramyeon and fried rice at a Sangbong Korean BBQ: Super Naengsam
In short
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch is a frozen pork belly (naengsam) restaurant near Sangbong Station in Jungnang, Seoul, where one 150g serving costs 9,900 won. On a packed Sunday evening we ordered three servings, added one more for four in total, cooked Shin Ramyeon ourselves at the Hangang ramyeon machine, and finished with fried rice pressed crisp on the grill. Between the unlimited minari self-bar and the course-like flow, it is easy to see why Super Naengsam was full.

Why was Super Naengsam full on a Sunday evening?
I went to Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch! I visited on a Sunday evening and was so surprised to see the whole restaurant packed with customers haha. It's near the station so it's easy to get to, and it turns out it's already a famous pork belly restaurant in Sangbong! Koreans really do love naengsam (frozen pork belly), don't they.

At the entrance there was a sign for the incredible value price of ₩9,900 for 150g per serving, which had my expectations sky-high before I even walked in haha.

The five rules of naengsam on the wall, and what we ordered
Inside, the atmosphere was clean and pleasant, tables were completely full, and a big menu board along with '5 commandments for enjoying naengsam deliciously' was posted on the wall.
- Heat the pan thoroughly
- Flip the naengsam only twice
- Grill the kimchi and bean sprouts together
- Season with pepper to taste
- Fried rice is not optional
We started by ordering 3 servings of naengsam, and it was so good we ended up adding 1 more — 4 servings total, thoroughly enjoyed haha.

How much minari can you take from the self-bar?
The basic table setting comes on a retro-style tray with lettuce, perilla leaves, scallions, minari (water dropwort), kimchi, and bean sprouts, all neatly arranged!

Among the barbecue places in Sangbong-dong, this one's self-bar is genuinely well stocked, so you can refill vegetables and side dishes without holding back haha. I love minari, so it felt just like going to a minari-pork-belly restaurant — great that I could just grab as much as I wanted! Whenever I go to a place specifically for minari samgyeopsal it's usually so expensive, but this place felt like a total steal haha.

Thick-cut frozen pork belly with no gamey smell
Finally, today's main event — the naengsam! Frozen pork belly is usually sliced too thin and can smell a bit off, but here the meat wasn't thin at all — it had a nice, satisfying thickness! No gamey or off smell whatsoever haha.

After heating the grill thoroughly, they put the meat on along with minari, kimchi, bean sprouts, and mushrooms, sprinkling pepper on as it cooked. The sizzling sight and smell made the wait feel so long ㅜ. I tried a well-cooked piece plain, and the juices were so moist, with zero gamey taste and pure savory flavor — it made me gasp out loud! Wrapping a lettuce leaf around a piece of meat with well-grilled minari, bean sprouts, and scallions made the perfect combination worthy of a Sangbong favorite haha.

Cooking Shin Ramyeon at the Hangang ramyeon machine
After eating our fill of meat, we added a side of Shin Ramyeon, cooked ourselves at the Hangang ramyeon machine! You can choose from Jjapaghetti, ramyeon, or bibim noodles, which is great haha. Some tables were even doing one ramyeon per person!

There were tons of ramyeon options on the display shelf, but we picked the spicy Shin Ramyeon and cooked it with the machine — it came out perfectly springy haha. The spicy broth cut through the greasiness beautifully, and slurping the noodles paired amazingly with the meat!

Fried rice pressed crisp on the grill, like nurungji
And of course, no Korean BBQ meal is complete without self-fried rice at the end, so we ordered that too haha. We got rice topped with seaweed flakes and minari, then chopped up the leftover meat, grilled kimchi, and bean sprouts finely and fried it all together right on the grill. I like to stand up to mix it properly, and the person next to me, P, asked if I was staff :) Mixing it up with two spoons and pressing it firmly onto the grill until it crisped — the self-fried rice was absolutely the best!

Is Super Naengsam Sangbong worth the wait?
Scooping up the rice, crisped like nurungji (scorched rice), was so good I couldn't stop even though I was already full ㅜ. The naengsam quality was excellent, and with the self-bar, Hangang ramyeon, and self-fried rice, the whole meal felt like a full course — I felt in my bones why this place is always packed haha. If you're looking for a great-value, delicious frozen pork belly restaurant near Sangbong Station, definitely check out Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch!
