Haenggung-dong café with a 3rd-floor fortress view: Caffeine Focus

In short

Caffeine Focus is a three-story bakery café in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, where the window seats look out on the walls of Hwaseong Fortress. The visit included an iced americano, an avocado smoothie, a vanilla bean Basque cheesecake and naturally fermented sourdough ciabatta to go, and a look at the window seats on both the 2nd and 3rd floors; the 3rd floor, with its wider view over the fortress wall, was the favourite. With strong air conditioning, blankets on hand and free cardamom granola for a Naver receipt review, Caffeine Focus is well worth the stop.

Looking for a café with a fortress view in Haenggung-dong

There are so many pretty cafés near Hwaseong Fortress, but this time I wasn't just after coffee — I wanted a café where I could actually look out the window at the fortress wall. Caffeine Focus turned out to match the mood I was after perfectly. The sign out front said the AC was on full blast, and honestly there was no way I wasn't walking in after reading that haha!!

The 1st floor terrace feel is also so charming, right!?

Caffeine Focus menu and how to order

Walking in, the place was full of the nice smell of bread and coffee! Caffeine Focus works so you order on the 1st floor and then take a seat on the 2nd or 3rd floor!

The menu had quite a variety too — not just coffee but non-coffee drinks, ades & teas, smoothies, and even the trendy ube haha!

On the bakery side there were various ciabattas, muffins, carrot pound cake, yogurt, and Basque cheesecake! I heard Caffeine Focus's ciabatta is made with a natural sourdough starter and cold-aged for over 12 hours, so I was really curious about the flavor!?

That day we ordered iced americano, avocado smoothie, vanilla bean Basque cheesecake, and ciabatta (takeout) :3

There's a Naver receipt review event giving out 50g of handmade cardamom granola — definitely do it!! There's also a transparently posted origin label board, worth checking out.

The Hwaseong Fortress view from the 2nd-floor window seats

With ordering done, let's head up to the 2nd floor!

Overview of 2nd floor seating at Caffeine Focus

The 2nd floor seating was overall clean and fuss-free, with a calm mood that made me want to stay a long time! So how about the window seats with the fortress view!?

Hwaseong Fortress wall view from the 2nd floor window seat

Ta-dah!!!! So green and so pretty, right!? I think the view is what I liked most about Caffeine Focus! Sitting by the window, you get the green grass and the Hwaseong Fortress wall in one glance — and visiting on a clear day, the blue sky and white clouds made the whole scene even prettier.

Just like the owner promised on the 1st floor sign about the AC — it really is freezing cold in the best way!! For anyone who runs too cold, there are blankets on hand too. The owner absolutely kept that promise.

Good things deserve a second close-up!! Officially a top view café in Haenggung-dong!

The 3rd floor and outdoor terrace, with an even better fortress view

The 2nd floor seating was already great, but let's go up to the 3rd floor too! The 3rd floor space has a different vibe from the 2nd, with bar tables as well,

and the fortress view is even better here!! I'd strongly recommend the 3rd floor to everyone! The 2nd floor view is nice, but the 3rd floor lets you look down from a higher vantage point, which I loved.

The 3rd floor also has a special outdoor terrace seating area — I think it'll be really popular once the weather cools down a bit. I'd love to come back in autumn and try sitting there haha.

And most importantly for me, there's a restroom too!!! And it's very clean!

The taste of the avocado smoothie and vanilla bean Basque cheesecake

While I was busy getting lost in the fortress view at Caffeine Focus, our order arrived 🤍

Drinks and dessert set on the window-side table

Setting the drinks down on the table by the window, it felt like the Hwaseong Fortress was framed like a picture.

Iced americano and avocado smoothie

The drink portions were very satisfying too. The iced americano had no sourness, just a nutty, well-balanced taste, and the one I personally liked even more was the avocado smoothie. It wasn't just sweet — it had a smooth, thick texture with the avocado flavor really coming through, giving it a different charm from a regular fruit smoothie. Filling too, as a bonus!

A slice of vanilla bean Basque cheesecake

The Basque cheesecake was the best I've had so far — with vanilla bean flecks dotted throughout, and that vanilla bean aroma paired so well with the Basque cheesecake flavor! Overall it wasn't overly sweet, which I liked even more 🤍

Overall thoughts

  • A pretty café in Haenggung-dong
  • Loved being able to see the Hwaseong Fortress wall view
  • Very cool and clean interior, comfortable to stay a while
  • Wide variety beyond coffee — smoothies, non-coffee drinks, ades & teas
  • Has its own naturally fermented sourdough ciabatta
  • Avocado smoothie is smooth, sweet and nutty — a nice change of pace

Caffeine Focus, a Hwaseong Fortress café in Suwon, had great coffee and dessert, but what really made it healing was the Hwaseong Fortress wall view out the window! If you're looking for a top view café near Hwaseong Fortress or a pretty café in Haenggung-dong, I recommend Caffeine Focus.
