Guam-dong, Daegu raw beef restaurant: creamy raw brisket at Bonghwa
In short
Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom (봉화생고기 본점) is a restaurant specializing in mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) and raw beef in Guam-dong, Chilgok, Buk-gu, Daegu. Travel blogger Quokka Road ordered the small raw chadol sashimi half-and-half (raw beef + raw chadol, thin-sliced brisket) with doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), and fell for mungtigi that stays stuck to the plate even when flipped and for the milky, nutty richness of raw chadol tried for the first time. For a first taste of mungtigi and raw chadol in Daegu, Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom is well worth recommending.

Bonghwa Saenggogi, a mungtigi and raw chadol spot in Daegu! I fell in love with the fresh raw beef and raw chadol here.

When you come to Daegu, makchang (grilled beef intestines) and mungtigi (hand-chopped raw beef) are a must, right? I had tried mungtigi once before, but this was my first time having raw chadol too! Spoiler: the mungtigi was delicious, but the raw chadol was genuinely shocking!!! I understood right away why you should eat raw beef and raw chadol in Daegu. So today I'm starting my honest review of Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom (봉화생고기 본점), a mungtigi and raw chadol spot in Daegu~!
Where is Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom, and what's the atmosphere like?

Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom is in Guam-dong, Chilgok, Daegu. There's parking in front of the restaurant, so it's easy to get to by car. The place is big and has separate rooms too, so it looks great for family gatherings or company dinners!

The interior is wood-toned overall with a Korean feel. It's less of a loud, rowdy meat joint and more of a place where you can have a relaxed meal.

You can see bamboo outside the window, so it almost felt like eating outdoors, and the food tasted even better!!
What side dishes come with Bonghwa Saenggogi?

Before the main dishes, Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom brought out starters: miyeok-guk (seaweed soup), baechu-jeon (cabbage pancake), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), and raw liver and tripe. And the sides alone were already something special!

The seaweed soup was a rich beef version simmered for a long time. Honestly, with just this I could have polished off a bowl of rice.

The cabbage pancake was sweet, crunchy cabbage in a crispy batter, so good.

Tteokbokki and gimbap come out too, and Daegu is a tteokbokki town, right? Chewy rice cakes with a spicy sauce, exactly like the snack bar outside school!

Raw liver and tripe, which are served only at places with really fresh meat, came out too, so they're great for a drink while you wait for the raw beef.
Does Bonghwa Saenggogi's mungtigi really stay on the plate when flipped?

At Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom, I ordered the small raw chadol sashimi half-and-half (raw beef + raw chadol).

I'd heard fresh mungtigi doesn't fall off even if you flip the plate upside down and I really wanted to try it, and it truly didn't fall!!! The texture of the mungtigi here is chewy and bouncy at the same time. The beefy flavor builds as you chew, with no gamey smell at all!

The mungtigi dipping sauce and the best way to eat it
With raw beef, the sauce matters too, right? The nuttiness of sesame oil, the sweet-sharp garlic and the mild heat of chili powder went so well with the mungtigi. Dunk a few pieces in the sauce and you just keep eating.

Try it wrapped in cabbage with raw beef, sauce and pickled garlic scapes on top too! Crunchy, chewy, spicy, sweet and salty all at once, so delicious haha
What does raw chadol taste like? My honest first impression

Raw chadol was honestly what I most wanted to try at Bonghwa Saenggogi. I'd seen it on TV a while back and was so curious! And it was seriously good!?!? Such a shock.

At first I wondered if all that fat would be greasy, but not at all! That fat is the whole point!!!!! Raw chadol felt like eating fresh cream full of cool, milky flavor. It is not the chadol taste you know!! Really rich and soft, yet with a chewy texture too. If you go to Daegu, please try raw chadol!!!
Is the doenjang-jjigae at Bonghwa Saenggogi worth ordering?

The doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) I ordered alongside was good too! It was generously filled with tofu, zucchini and radish. It's a slightly spicy style with a deep, rich broth, so it went well with the meat! Eating it between drinks washes everything down, an instant hangover-cure kind of taste.
