If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant in Jisan-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, I recommend Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip (중국성 일급요리사의 집), a 30-year-old classic.

Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip has held the same spot in Jisan-dong for 30 years. It was the first place in a while where I thought, "Now THIS is a real Chinese restaurant!" Hand-pulled noodles, jajang stir-fried in lard, and old-style tangsuyuk (Korean sweet and sour pork)... it was all so good!! So let's get into my honest review of this Suseong-gu Chinese restaurant~!
What kind of place is Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip?
Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip is a Chinese restaurant that has been running in Jisan-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu for over 30 years. The 30 years of history shows, and the moment I walked in I felt that warm, friendly vibe of a place locals have visited for ages.

And delivery drivers kept coming in the whole time we ate!? I heard Jungguksung is a beloved delivery spot for the neighborhood, and I could feel it right away haha

Still, you know Chinese food tastes best eaten right in the dining hall, right? Noodles that haven't gone soggy, freshly fried crispy tangsuyuk and piping hot jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) were even better eaten in the restaurant haha
What are the daily discounts at Jungguksung?
Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip runs daily discounts, and on Mondays jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) is ₩5,000!! That price is exactly why I recommend it as a lunch spot in Suseong-gu.

These days a dujjonku (Dubai-style chewy cookie) costs ₩7,000, and a bowl of jajangmyeon is ₩5,000. What a bargain, right?

On other days there are discounts on jjamppong, fried rice and ganjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles), so the prices were easy on the wallet for a lunch!!
What's in the 2-person hearty set, and how big is it?
We ordered the 2-person hearty set, with tangsuyuk plus ganjajang and jjamppong as the meal dishes. The portions were generous, and the two of us ate until we were stuffed!!

Rich lard ganjajang
The dish I was most curious about was the lard ganjajang! It was loaded with onion, so it had a lovely crunch, and above all the sauce itself was delicious!!

I heard they stir-fry the jajang in lard, and maybe that's why the flavor was deep and the nutty richness really came through.

The noodles are made in-house, and I loved the chewy, springy texture. They are definitely different from ordinary jajangmyeon!!
Cool jjamppong that cures a hangover
Jungguksung's jjamppong has bean sprouts and napa cabbage, and what stood out was a cool, refreshing broth rather than a spicy one. Lots of places make jjamppong that is just hot these days, but this one was clean and refreshing.

I feel like it would really settle your stomach as a hangover meal the morning after drinking.
Nostalgic old-style tangsuyuk
My favorite dish was the tangsuyuk!! Crispy outside, tender and juicy inside, exactly the old-school Chinese restaurant style.

Kkwabarou (crispy Northeastern-style sweet and sour pork) style is everywhere these days, right? But honestly I love old-style Chinese restaurant tangsuyuk, so Jungguksung's version was extra welcome.

I heard they use 100% Korean sirloin, and the meaty flavor came through the more I chewed, wow, so good!!! The sweet, tangy sauce with fruit in it went well with it too.
