Yangpyeong garden café with ducks and patbingsu: Dotorigol

On our family trip to Yangpyeong, we visited Dotorigol Yangpyeong Garden Cafe (도토리골 양평정원카페). With a wide garden and pond right in front of the café, where we could see ducks up close, it was such a nice place to visit with a child. The indoor atmosphere was relaxing too, and we ordered a variety of patbingsu and drinks for a leisurely time.

Where is Dotorigol Yangpyeong Garden Cafe in Danwol-myeon?

Dotorigol Yangpyeong Garden Cafe is located in Danwol-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun. Once you turn off the main road, a narrow, mountain-road-like lane continues inward. As we got close, we spotted a large rock marked “Cafe. Dotorigol,” so it was easy to find.

Surrounded by mountains, it was a wonderful place to get away from the busy city and take a quiet break. There was also plenty of parking around the café, so visiting by car with the whole family was no trouble.

It was not simply a building standing on its own: the garden, pond, and walking paths came together, giving us plenty to explore slowly before even heading inside.

Can children enjoy the garden and ducks?

The first thing that caught our eye was the expansive garden spread out in front of the café. Outdoor tables and benches were dotted among the green lawn, and a calm pond lay just ahead.

There was a short walking path and a pavilion around the pond, making it nice to look around after our drinks. On one side of the garden, there were also mini electric ride-on cars and toy cars for children.

More than anything, the ducks relaxing in the pond captured our child’s attention. Every time a duck moved, our little one could not look away and watched quietly for ages. Being able to naturally encounter ducks in the garden—something we do not often get to see up close—was the most memorable part of this visit for our family. There was plenty for children to see while adults could rest in nature, so it was an easy place for the whole family to stay awhile.

What are the indoor atmosphere and second-floor seats like?

Inside, the mood was quite different from the outdoor garden. The first floor felt open and airy thanks to its high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows, and we could enjoy the mountains and pond even from indoors.

The deep green counter, soft lighting, and velvet sofas created a cozy yet calm feeling. Pastel-colored chairs and potted plants were placed throughout, making it fun to look around.

There was a free black-and-white receipt photo booth, as well as a charmingly decorated corner for browsing books and small objects. We picked up our drinks and desserts, then settled in upstairs.

The tall triangular ceiling and large floor-to-ceiling windows were striking, while sofas and tables by the windows made it comfortable to sit back.

A large wooden bookcase held books across many genres. The second floor was especially lovely: great for resting while looking out at the scenery, or for quietly reading a book.

How were the mugwort rice cake patbingsu and drinks?

Since we came with family, we were able to try a variety of menu items.

The first menu item to catch our eye was the old-style patbingsu with ssuk gaetteok. Rather than the milk ice that is so popular these days, it was a nostalgic old-style patbingsu made with shaved regular ice. A bear-face scoop of vanilla ice cream sat on top, and it looked adorable from the start.

It came with all sorts of toppings around it: sweet red beans, injeolmi (roasted soybean powder rice cake), ssuk gaetteok, cheese cubes, and cereal. Scooping up the crunchy ice with sweet red beans, then finding chewy mugwort rice cake in between, gave it such a nice mix of textures. The mugwort rice cake in patbingsu seemed especially fitting for a café called Dotorigol, or Acorn Valley. If you come with several people, it is truly great for sharing.

We also ordered an iced Americano to have with the sweet patbingsu. It was cool and clean-tasting, so it paired nicely after bites of the sweet dessert.

We were curious about the Dotorigol Signature Latte because it carries the café’s name, so we ordered one too. Lotus cookies added a sweet note to the smooth, nutty latte—it was nutty and sweet.

The Dotorigol Fresh Strawberry Latte we ordered for our child paired sweet strawberry flavor beautifully with milk, making it easy to drink like a dessert.

Why I recommend it for a Yangpyeong family trip

Dotorigol Yangpyeong Garden Cafe has a wide garden and pond, making it a wonderful place to visit with children. Our child watched ducks in the pond and happily played with bubbles in the garden.

It was more than just a place to have drinks—we could take a stroll through the garden with our child too, which made it a good stop on a Yangpyeong family trip.
