Cheonan brunch café with Taehaksan views and bakery: Siyudang

In short

Siyudang is a brunch and bakery café at the entrance to Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest in Cheonan, Chungnam. On a weekend morning, I had chicken rosé pasta, an open shrimp sandwich, bread, and coffee before enjoying the rooftop and a forest walk. Verdict: Siyudang is for anyone wanting brunch, bakery treats, and a restorative space in one stop.

I always think this. When Monday comes: “Ah... this weekend, I’ll go to a brunch café early and have a nice, leisurely~~ lunch while enjoying brunch!!”

But once Friday night happens, weekend mornings somehow disappear.......... This week, I was determined to enjoy that leisure no matter what!!! So I got up at dawn and raced to Siyudang (시유당), a Cheonan brunch café.

I had searched it for ages before going, so I expected it to be good—but seriously, seriously, seriously, anyone worn down by the world absolutely has to visit at least once. It’s good when the weather is nice, good when it’s cloudy. Even good in the rain.

Spacious parking at the entrance to Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest

The café is at the entrance to Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest, and I worried, “There’s a café here....?” Maybe it would be some old-fashioned coffeehouse..........

But the parking lot here is super spacious. Amazing.

The breads that greeted me at the door

The café interior is even more healing, but first, the breads greeted me the moment I walked in. “Hello, breads~~”

I needed to have brunch, but there were so many breads that I needed to have bread too..

A light order: 2 brunch dishes and 3 breads! And since there was coffee, coffee to go with it too >_< ♡

My claimed seat on the second and third floors and rooftop

The first floor alone was wonderful, but the second... and third floors were such healing spaces too.

This spot was so pretty that I kept taking photos, and I claimed it as my seat!!!! Just looking at the flowers was pretty... the sky was pretty, the weekend was lovely...

And the rooftop has a photo spot, with a windmill that feels like its symbol. Kind of like Windy Hill in Geoje.....???

I was waiting at the seat I’d claimed, taking photos for ages, when the pager buzzed. I went down to find a whole spread of food,

There was so much food that they had left a cart to one side; you can load it onto the cart and take the elevator.

Today’s server, bellboy boyfriend Jjingjjingi, haha.

Chicken rosé pasta and an open shrimp sandwich

Our brunch, completed by Jjingjjingi’s perfect service.

Yes, yes, yes!! This is what I wanted, this!!! Yes, yes!! This is it, this!!! Brunch vibes!!!!

Now to eat it. Leisurely~ and sloooowly. Absolutely sloooowly—one forkful, one look at the greenery. One forkful, one look at the greenery.

My boyfriend likes tomato pasta, but today we ordered chicken rosé pasta. It came with two generous pieces of chicken thigh, wide pasta noodles, and what seemed to be homemade sauce, so it was even, even, even more delicious.

As befits a brunch café, Siyudang apparently makes all its sauces in-house. Homemade, homemade!!

The chicken thigh was tender and went so well with the pasta, and the sauce had a lovely texture to bite into.

And the open shrimp sandwich I chose had bread that was so~ wonderfully crisp; everything worked together and tasted delicious. The egg, arugula, and sauce were perfectly balanced! And isn’t this kind of open toast what brunch is all about!! This is it, this!!!

Even if it’s a little awkward to eat, this is the kind of deliciousness you eat brunch for!!!

The bakery I still couldn’t give up after brunch

Honestly, I was full just from this, but brunch is brunch and a bakery café is a bakery café—shall we taste some bread too, not just brunch at this big Cheonan café~~?

I only put together enough for the tiniest little taste, but.

Bakery breads selected for a taste

Croissants—places that do these well do everything well. A croissant that shatters into flaky layers. They’re good. So. Good. I knew it when I ate the shrimp sandwich!

So good, so good—the bread is crispppp! I even ate it with a little pasta sauce on top!! Professor Eater LEE^^

My boyfriend said the sausage pastry he chose was tastier than the croissant, but I think he liked it more because the sauce was delicious. For me: croissant >>> sausage.

The final mentaiko mayo salt bread was packed generously with mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe); its savory richness and saltiness mixed together made it so good.

And that salt bread with its mix of nutty richness + saltiness. Siyudang is a Cheonan brunch café with bakery treats that are just as delicious.

For Siyudang, I want to give brunch 100 points + bakery 100 points + space 600 points: 700 points out of 300.

There’s also a self-packing station on the first floor, so you can pack up leftover bread. This Cheonan brunch café has plenty of high chairs too, making it wonderful to bring a little one and enjoy this view.

A walk near Taehaksan after getting full

If you’re tired right now, you need time to heal at Siyudang.

+) Siyudang is at the entrance to Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest, so after getting full, I went for a walk nearby.

There was a children’s forest experience center, Beopwangsa’s cave temple hall, and after the walk, it felt as though all the worldly black grime inside my body had been scrubbed away........
