Dongtan Station mala bone-broth lunch course for two: Pyeonbaek
In short
Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch is an all-you-can-eat cypress-steam and shabu-shabu restaurant on the 2nd floor of Granvia Star by Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday lunch visit with her husband, the writer picked the bone-broth mala broth and the chicken broth and worked through cypress steam, shabu-shabu and the self-serve bar for 16,900 won on the weekday lunch price. Alternating the numbing mala heat with the clean chicken broth made Pyeonbaek Hoegwan an easy pick for a lunch gathering near Dongtan Station.

My husband and I went out for lunch. While hunting for a good Dongtan Station restaurant, I found a place offering all-you-can-eat cypress-steam and shabu-shabu — Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch! It's famous for an Instagram video that hit 6 million views and has been featured on several well-known influencer channels, so I was extra excited. Let's get into the review.

Where is Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch? Hours and parking
Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch is on the 2nd floor of Granvia Star near Dongtan Station. It's open Monday to Sunday, 11:00–22:00, with last order at 20:30. It was closed on September 25 for Chuseok.
It's a 10-minute walk or a 3-minute drive from Lotte Department Store, so it's perfect after shopping in Dongtan or after a date at Dongtan Lake Park. The B4 parking lot is spacious and roomy, so parking wasn't a concern at all.

Inside the 110-pyeong hall and the kids' playroom
Walking into the huge, roughly 364m² (110-pyeong) dining hall, the space felt really open and comfortable. It's easy to see why this is one of the go-to spots for Dongtan group dinners — you can feel it the moment you walk in.

There's also a kids' playroom, so it would be great for a family meal out with children too.

The all-you-can-eat course starts with cypress steam: 16,900 won at weekday lunch
The Pyeonbaek Hoegwan all-you-can-eat course follows an order. It starts with cypress steam.

Shabu-shabu cypress-steam all-you-can-eat (weekday lunch) is ₩16,900. Once the cypress steam comes out, it takes about 10 minutes to cook, and you can spend that time enjoying appetizers from the self-serve bar — the timing was so well planned that there was no boring wait at all.

They say the cypress steam is made in a traditional way using 12 kinds of medicinal herbs. The meat inside kept its moisture and cooked up tender. Piling the meat onto fresh rice-paper wraps and dipping it in peanut sauce — that combination was seriously good.

Bone-broth mala vs chicken broth: how the two compare
After the cypress steam, we moved on to shabu-shabu. You can choose from three broths, and we picked the bone-broth mala broth and the chicken broth.

The bone-broth mala broth had that numbing, deep mala aroma alive, layered with the richness of bone broth — the soup was really delicious. The chicken broth was clean and mild, perfect for alternating with if the mala broth is too intense for you.

What's on the self-serve bar and in the shabu-shabu spread
We loaded up plenty from the self-serve bar too. Fries, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), pasta, fried rice — the self-serve bar lineup was seriously solid. You'd already be full just from the cypress steam and shabu-shabu, but being able to enjoy all these self-serve bar dishes too makes this hold its own as a Dongtan buffet.

The shabu-shabu ingredients were varied too — bean sprouts, bok choy, mushrooms, napa cabbage, dumplings, sausage, fish cake, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and hand-torn dough, plus unlimited beef brisket and skirt steak you could keep bringing over, which was great.

We added napa cabbage, mushrooms, dumplings, sausage, and noodles, then lightly cooked the beef brisket and skirt steak. The brisket cooked up savory and tender — the moment you dipped it in the broth and pulled it out, it was perfect. The skirt steak had a clean, chewy bite too, and alternating between the two cuts of meat never got old. Adding plenty of cabbage and mushrooms made the broth taste even more refreshing and deep.

Does Pyeonbaek Hoegwan work for a Dongtan lunch gathering?
It's a perfect spot for a Dongtan lunch gathering too. If you visit by 3pm on weekdays, adults can enjoy the exact same all-you-can-eat course for ₩16,900 — that's the ultimate in value.
Enjoying Dongtan shabu-shabu and Dongtan cypress steam in one sitting, plus the self-serve bar, all at this price — I don't think there's anywhere among Dongtan Station restaurants that beats this value.
