On a weekend lunch I was craving fiery broth and crispy tangsuyuk (Korean sweet-and-sour pork), so I dragged my younger brother out on a Chinese food adventure. We went to Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch (짬뽕지존 부천중동점) in Sinjung-dong, Bucheon, famous for using 100% domestic sun-dried chili powder and cooking every order on the spot. It's known for serving faster than fast food and for a clean taste, with a steady stream of customers, so my expectations were high ^^

Is Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch spacious and clean?

It's a Chinese restaurant with a big 66-seat hall, and when we visited at weekend lunchtime it was already almost full. It holds a 'Very Good' hygiene grade from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the tables and the whole place looked tidy.

Visiting at weekend lunchtime, the 66-seat hall was already almost packed ^^ The crowd was really mixed, from families to solo diners and couples, and delivery riders kept coming and going nonstop, so I could really feel how popular this jjamppong spot near Bucheon City Hall is.

Once seated, the basic side dishes are jjasai (Chinese pickled mustard stem) and individually wrapped pickled radish, so there's no worry about reuse and it feels hygienic, which I really liked. As you'd expect from a 'Very Good' hygiene grade, the tables and the whole place were spotlessly clean, without a trace of stickiness.

Self-bar with unlimited rice refills

What can you refill for free at the self-bar?

One side of the restaurant has a self-bar where you can help yourself to pickled radish (kkakdugi), bean sprouts and jjasai, and even unlimited rice. For people who love dropping rice into their soup, this might be the ultimate jjamppong spot in Bucheon ^^

How fast is the food served, and how are the jjajangmyeon and jjamppong sujebi?

We ordered jjajangmyeon, jjamppong sujebi and a medium glutinous-rice tangsuyuk on the kiosk at our table, and all the food was set out at once within 10 minutes. The jjajangmyeon was ₩7,000 because of a discount event.

We ordered jjajangmyeon, jjamppong sujebi and a medium glutinous-rice tangsuyuk on the kiosk at the table. Amazingly, everything arrived together just 10 minutes after ordering! This is the kind of Sinjung-dong jjamppong place office workers would go wild for on a busy weekday lunch ^^

The jjajangmyeon happened to be on a discount event, so we got it for ₩7,000. It was a sweet, rich old-school jjajangmyeon that anyone, young or old, would like with no hit-or-miss.

Broth of the default-spice jjamppong sujebi

Is the jjamppong sujebi too spicy for people who can't handle heat?

The spice level of the jjamppong sujebi (jjamppong with hand-pulled dough flakes) is adjustable, and with the default level even people who can't handle spicy food ate it without trouble. The sujebi I'd been hoping for came loaded with chewy potato dough flakes, with a fun chew totally different from noodles. We chose the default, and my brother, a total spice wimp, sweated a little and still enjoyed it. The broth, with the weight of a meat stock blended perfectly with the refreshing taste of seafood, has a depth that lives up to its title as a Bucheon jjamppong favorite ^^

Medium glutinous-rice tangsuyuk: portion size and texture

Even the medium glutinous-rice tangsuyuk is very generous in size, and you can choose dip or pour on the kiosk in advance. It's the soulmate of jjamppong, so we couldn't skip it! The coating is snow-white and chewy, and the pork inside is plentiful and thick. The crispy-outside, juicy-inside texture was a textbook example, a perfect match with the jjamppong broth ^^ The thoughtful option to choose in advance whether to dip or pour the sauce was a nice touch too.

Complimentary jjamppong fried dumplings

The 'jjamppong fried dumplings' they gave us as a freebie were a real treat too. Biting into the crispy fried dumpling, a faint wok aroma came with a burst of spicy jjamppong flavor that really whetted the appetite. From mains to sides, there's no weak spot in the lineup at this Sinjung-dong jjamppong restaurant ^^

Packing up leftovers and the free drink corner

They pack leftovers into a dedicated container, and there's a free drink corner at the entrance, so you can even get an after-meal coffee.

The tangsuyuk was more than I expected, so I asked them to pack the leftovers. Even though they were busy, the owner and staff were very kind and neatly put it in a dedicated container, and I was touched ^^

Free drink corner at the entrance

On your way out, the varied free drink corner at the entrance lets you finish with coffee and sweet drinks. Fast, accurate service, rich and deep flavor, and unlimited rice and drinks for customers! If you're looking for a Bucheon City Hall jjamppong place for a reliably filling meal when Chinese food is calling, please do stop by ^^
