A neatly set-out hanjeongsik (traditional Korean full-course set meal) restaurant with real homemade skill behind it — I visited Mokhyang Hanjeongsik Mokpo Branch (목향 한정식) while traveling in Mokpo, and it really felt like being treated to a carefully prepared table. Good food in a tidy atmosphere — I'd especially recommend it for family gatherings or for hosting someone you're grateful to. It's located near Sangdong Megabox in Mokpo.

Here's the exterior of Mokhyang Hanjeongsik.

The interior has a clean, wood-toned, private feel, giving off a stable and comfortable atmosphere for family meals, meetings between families, or gatherings. The interior overall is tidy and calm. The window seats had a nice green view, which felt quite atmospheric.

There's also group seating set up in a separate space.

There's also a room space that's great for group gatherings.
What's on the menu at Mokhyang Hanjeongsik

The menu offers hanjeongsik course options like the Mokhyang Special Hanjeongsik Course, Seon Hanjeongsik Course, Hanjeongsik, and Two-Person Hanjeongsik. There are also lunch specials and single-meal dishes like jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) set, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) set, nakji-bokkeum (stir-fried octopus), lunch special set, and boribulgul jeongsik (dried yellow corvina set).

Beyond that, there's fried shrimp, yukjeon (pan-fried beef), sashimi, nakji-horong (octopus skewers), yukhoe-tangtang-i (raw beef tartare with minced octopus), and nakji-tangtang-i (chopped raw octopus). There's also a decent drinks list — Hwayo, Hon, Baekseju, Ilpumjinro Maechwisun, bokbunja (black raspberry wine), and craft makgeolli.
Boribulgulbi set for two (₩56,000): what comes to the table

We ordered the boribulgul jeongsik set for two (₩56,000) and yukjeon (₩20,000).

Boribulgul jeongsik for two (₩56,000): the main dish is boribulgeobi — dried yellow corvina, richly aged and grilled to a fragrant, savory finish. The lineup of side dishes that come with it is seriously impressive.

The side dishes included sashimi and hoe-muchim (spicy mixed raw fish), baek-kimchi (white kimchi), sweet pumpkin, salad, pan-fried fish, salted squid, seasoned sweet potato stems, and yakbap (sweet rice with nuts and dried fruit).

A saury spicy stew also comes out. The broth was really good.

There's also a stone-pot rice that comes with it — you scoop out the rice and pour in hot water to make nurungji (scorched rice). It had a nutty, comforting flavor, great for cleansing the palate.

Green tea is served alongside too.

The boribulgeobi flesh was so wonderfully chewy.

It's salty with a savory depth that spreads the more you chew — really good. Pour cold green tea over rice and top it with a piece of boribulgeobi, and you get a clean, fragrant flavor without any fishiness at all. It also pairs really well with the neatly prepared basic banchan.
Yukjeon (₩20,000): the pan-fried beef that calls for makgeolli

Yukjeon (₩20,000) arrived.

Great texture, nutty and really tasty. Coated thin in golden-fried egg batter and freshly pan-fried, the yukjeon had a chewy texture. It wasn't greasy at all — light, but with a savory depth that builds the more you chew. It's also great with a bit of the side banchan or spicy seasoned sauce on top. This is a flavor that makes you crave a glass of makgeolli.
