Lamb skewer spot at Express Bus Terminal Exit 8-1: Banpo Yangkkochi

In short

Banpo Yangkkochi is a lamb skewer restaurant in the basement of the building right outside Exit 8-1 of Express Bus Terminal Station in Seocho, Seoul. Arriving as the first customer right after the 3 p.m. opening, the writer ordered lamb skewers for 2 and eoyang gaji (fish-fragrant eggplant) and found the skewers large with no gamey smell at all. Banpo Yangkkochi has only 7 tables, so check the Catch Table remote waitlist before an evening visit.

Lamb skewers on the grill at Banpo Yangkkochi

I visited Banpo Yangkkochi, a great spot near Express Bus Terminal. It had been way too long since I last had lamb skewers, and the good value and big, chunky skewers made grilling them really satisfying. When I meet this friend we always eat raw fish, but it's so hot lately that raw fish didn't even cross my mind. So we went for tasty lamb skewers instead. I worried that sitting at a grill would be too hot, but lamb skewers in a blasting-AC, cool room? Love it.

Where is Banpo Yangkkochi, and how far is it from Express Bus Terminal Station?

Banpo Yangkkochi is on basement level 1 of the building right outside Exit 8-1 of Express Bus Terminal Station. It takes under a minute on foot, so it's super close to the station and there's no time to get hot on the way, haha. It's also near Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam, so I'd recommend browsing the department store and then having lamb skewers for dinner.

Banpo Yangkkochi hours, waiting times and reservations

Banpo Yangkkochi is open daily from 15:00 to 23:00, all year round, as far as I heard. I took a half-day off and said we should be the very first customers, so we planned to meet at 3. My friend arrived around 2:50 and luckily it had just opened and we could go straight in. The place is small with about 7 tables, so there might be a wait in the evening. Because it's small, they mostly take walk-ins. Reservations are hard, but you can join the waitlist remotely through Catch Table, so checking Catch Table before you go is a must!

They also sell Yantai kaoliang liquor and Harbin beer sets, and the place was clean! We were the first customers, and right after we ordered, three older ladies came in and had lamb skewers too~ Even in the heat, lamb skewers are just good.

Banpo Yangkkochi menu and what we ordered

Banpo Yangkkochi, a lamb skewer favorite in Banpo! The menu had lamb skewers, lamb ribs, kkwabaerou (Chinese-style sweet and sour pork), eoyang gaji (fried eggplant in sweet-savory sauce), cucumber salad, on-myeon (warm noodle soup), malatang and more. We ordered regular lamb skewers for 2 and eoyang gaji. Prices are friendly, so I'd recommend ordering a variety. My friend and I thought about getting on-myeon too, but figured it would be a lot of food and said we'd order it later. Then we were both so full that we never got to the on-myeon~ A great value spot, Banpo Yangkkochi!

Cumin, chalryo spice and coarse sea salt on the table

The table had jjeuran (cumin), chalryo (a dipping spice mix) and coarse sea salt ready. I eat lamb skewers with these seasonings a lot, and I always feel awkward asking staff for refills, but since they were already on the table I could use as much as I wanted!!

How the lamb skewers taste and how to grill them

The lamb skewers came out looking great, plump and with no gamey smell. The fire is strong at first, so you grill them briefly in the middle and then move them to the edge. As the fat dripped and the flames shot up, a staff member explained how to grill them.

Is one order of eoyang gaji enough for two?

The tempting eoyang gaji came out too. The portion was big, and two of us got full on it. It goes so well with beer that you keep eating it. Sweet and salty is the best, as always!

We met to celebrate quitting a job and a wedding, and we ate really well. If you're looking for a lamb skewer place near Express Bus Terminal, I recommend Banpo Yangkkochi. It's good value, and the skewers had no gamey smell at all, so they were easy to enjoy.

The eoyang gaji had lots of vegetables in it, and the batter was thin, so it was even crispier and tastier.

Quiet table setting at Banpo Yangkkochi

I highly recommend Banpo Yangkkochi. The staff were kind and the atmosphere was quiet and nice~
