Where is Namsangoeul Wongok? Five minutes from Chilgok Reservoir
The weather was so nice on the weekend that I went for a drive out toward Chilgok Lake Park, and ended up finding a really comforting, filling meal nearby. It's only about 5 minutes by car from Chilgok Reservoir, so it was the perfect stop for when I got hungry after the drive.
The exterior of the place is neat and tidy, which put me in a good mood before I even walked in. It's right on the road too, so it was easy to find and generally very accessible.

I love dumplings, so I tend to stop by any place that says "handmade dumplings" on the sign. This time, Namsangoeul Wongok in Anseong's Wongok area exceeded my expectations.
I'd heard it carries over the hand-made skills of a place already famous as one of Anseong's 8 must-try dishes (안성8미), so I was looking forward to it even before visiting.

Inside Namsangoeul Wongok: dining room and family seating
Namsangoeul Wongok has generous spacing between tables and a clean interior, making it a good Korean restaurant to bring parents to. Taste matters, but the atmosphere and friendliness of a place really shape the whole dining experience. The owner greeted us kindly the moment we walked in, which I really appreciated.

They explained the menu calmly and thoroughly, and checked in on us throughout the meal to see if we needed anything — it left a real impression.

The interior was kept spotless in every corner, so we could enjoy the meal in a pleasant environment. The layout and table spacing gave guests plenty of room, which made me think it'd be great for bringing parents along or dining as a family.
100% handmade kimchi dumplings, hand-chopped with care — no blender used

What comes in the 12,000 won handmade dumpling hot pot?
Namsangoeul Wongok's handmade dumpling hot pot is ₩12,000 per serving, generously loaded with clams, shrimp, and rice cake. Not long after we ordered from our seats, the hot pot arrived.

At ₩12,000 per person, it's a kind price given today's prices, and the portion was generous — the ingredients looked genuinely fresh at a glance.

Instead of using store-bought dumplings, they knead the dough fresh every day to make the noodles and wrappers, and the filling is hand-chopped rather than blended. Maybe that's why the texture was so distinctive the moment I bit into one.

The filling was packed tight with meat, vegetables, and kimchi, and because they're handmade dumplings, the flavor came through vividly.

These days most dumplings are machine-ground, so it's rare to get this kind of careful texture. It genuinely felt like eating chewy, generously stuffed dumplings my own mother made by hand at home.

There were clams and shrimp too, plus a generous helping of rice cake!

How the broth tastes when you burst a kimchi dumpling
The hot pot broth at Namsangoeul Wongok starts out mild and clean, then turns into a spicy, savory broth once you burst a kimchi dumpling into it. As the pot began bubbling, a subtle aroma spread through the air that was hard to resist. I tasted the clean, mild signature broth first, then popped a handmade kimchi dumpling into it.

As the spicy kimchi filling naturally dissolved into the broth, it turned into a spicy yet deeply savory soup — a real specialty.

The broth wasn't greasy or harsh, just clean, so I kept spooning it up. The combination of fresh vegetables, chewy dumplings, and deep broth warmed me right up — it felt like a proper boyangsik (nourishing meal).
It was also fascinating how the dumplings, thanks to the chewy dough made fresh each day, didn't burst easily in the hot pot and stayed springy to the end.

Side dishes and the perilla oil soy dipping sauce
The side dishes were napa cabbage kimchi, young radish kimchi, and seasoned pickled radish — three in total!

It's a seasoned soy sauce made with their own pressed perilla oil, and pairing it with the vegetables and dumplings was absolutely a treat!!

Iced tea was served on the house as a palate cleanser!
