Gojan-dong eel buffet with parking and siraegi eel soup: Songnim Bok

In short

Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall Direct Store is an all-you-can-eat freshwater eel, pork belly and chicken neck restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan, where adults pay ₩29,900 for 2 hours of free use of the self-bar. The writer tasted the first eel salt-grilled, then refilled with perilla leaves, ginger and green onion kimchi, and finished with bokbunja (black raspberry) wine given as an opening gift and an eel soup packed with siraegi (dried radish greens). With a public parking lot connected to the back of the shop, Songnim Bok Jangeo was an easy-to-reach, great-value stamina meal for a day worn out by the heat.

All-you-can-eat freshwater eel as a summer stamina food at Songnim Bok

Songnim Bok, the all-you-can-eat eel spot in Gojan-dong. Grilled eel and eel soup are seriously good, a summer stamina meal, yum yum eel. You can enjoy it all-you-can-eat at a great price.

Parking and group seating at Songnim Bok Jangeo Ansan City Hall

Songnim Bok has parking in the building, but it was full when I visited, so I used the public parking lot right in front. The public lot connects to the back of the shop, which is super convenient, haha. You can eat all-you-can-eat here or get takeout.

There's a wide area for group dinners, and private hire and groups are possible, with high chairs for kids too. Groups of up to 75 are welcome; just call ahead. It's a Gojan-dong all-you-can-eat spot where you get not only eel but pork belly and chicken neck as well.

Songnim Bok dining hall with glass windows and wide group seating

The big glass windows look cool and fresh, and the interior is very clean. The shop is new, so it's really pleasant!! I'd recommend it as a team-dinner spot in Gojan-dong.

Eel grilling guide on the table at Songnim Bok

How to grill freshwater eel

Just follow the eel grilling guide posted on the table at Songnim Bok.

  • First, grill fresh eel with the skin side down.
  • Second, once both sides are well cooked, remove the side fin in the middle of the back and the head fin.
  • Third, cut it into bite-size pieces, stand them up and grill the cut sides until golden.

Songnim Bok Jangeo all-you-can-eat rules and table setup

The all-you-can-eat time at Songnim Bok is 2 hours, which is plenty, haha. There's an environmental fee if you leave food, and of course leftovers can't be taken home.

Freshwater eel, the classic stamina food, is said to reduce fatigue substances and help you recover energy, and it's rich in nutrients like calcium and iron and good for boosting immunity.

The basic setup is green onion kimchi, eel sauce, ginger and more! If you need more, just grab it from the self-bar~ Eel is high in protein, so it's good for dieting too!!!!

Domestic freshwater eel, pork belly and chicken neck are served just once at the start, then you can freely bring more from the self-bar. Eel + pork belly is such a good combo. Protein you can eat lots of without getting sick of it!!

Oh, and maybe as an opening event, they gave us this by default.. wow!!!! Free bokbunja wine (black raspberry wine), which goes great with eel >< We definitely have to drink this, hahaha.

Songnim Bok's eel is chilled, not frozen and thawed! They say it's freshwater eel caught fresh every day. No funky smell and so delicious!!!

White kimchi is great with eel, and it's good grilled too~

What's on the Songnim Bok Jangeo self-bar?

At the Songnim Bok self-bar you can make your own fried eggs and kimchi jeon (kimchi pancakes).

You can fry your own eggs at the self-bar too. Tables with kids would love this, haha. Eggs are really expensive these days, so this is a total bargain!! If you do the Naver receipt event, you can also get a drink.

Eel, pork belly, neck meat, plus lettuce, ginger, white kimchi, perilla leaves, green onion kimchi, pickles, chili peppers and garlic and more are all yours at the self-bar as much as you want. Not leaving food matters for the environment, so take a reasonable amount!!!

How good is the eel at Songnim Bok Jangeo?

What I liked most was the eel quality at Songnim Bok. The flesh is thick and springy!!! Don't forget to pick out the bones when you trim it, haha.

An eel specialist, so it's eel you can trust!!! It had gotten hot and I had no energy, so this was an excellent menu choice….

Hovenia tea and eel table setting at Songnim Bok

Even the water is hovenia tea… so you basically can't help but keep drinking, haha.

Once it's grilled golden on both sides, trim it up. Be sure to cut off the fins with scissors before eating!

Eel is said to be rich in protein, vitamin A, vitamin D and omega fatty acids. It's oily so the calories are high and you should watch out for overeating, but it's so tasty you keep eating, that's the trap, haha. It's especially a favorite of middle-aged guys, and they say eating it really gives you strength.

Eel and chicken neck grilling over charcoal at Songnim Bok

The chicken neck is also grilled directly over charcoal, chewy with no gamey smell, a real highlight.

Start with salt-grilled eel

First eel is salt-grilled! Just eat it plain. To enjoy the true flavor of eel, hahaha.

After that, eel with sauce plus ginger + perilla leaf. You can inhale unlimited amounts!

Plump, oily and delicious eel… I don't like dry, tough meat, so for me the eel and pork belly were both so good.

Tired of eel? Pork belly and chicken neck

Songnim Bok is an eel place, but the pork belly and chicken neck quality is pretty decent too… great to alternate when you get tired of eel, hahaha. Unlimited eel and meat is perfect for us carnivores, hahaha. Loading up on protein and heading out.

We're the munching experts who wrap everything in perilla leaves and green onion kimchi, hahahaha. And when it gets a bit greasy, cut it with Cheongyang chili pepper..

Salt-grilled eel with bokbunja (black raspberry) wine

Eel is rich and nutty, and bokbunja wine is sweet and tangy, such a good match. Bokbunja goes with salt-grilled eel, and there's a reason it's a traditionally popular pairing, haha. It cleans up your mouth nicely.

Refills.. you can't come to an all-you-can-eat place and eat only one plate and leave!!!

Finishing eel soup with rice at Songnim Bok
Songnim Bok eel soup packed with siraegi

Is the Songnim Bok Jangeo siraegi eel soup worth ordering?

Songnim Bok's eel soup is a ₩10,000 meal with rice included, and I ordered it because I wanted something brothy to finish. It's seriously ri~~~ch, a must-eat. It felt like dozens of eels were condensed in it, haha.

There isn't a lot of broth, but it's truly rich!!! People who like strong flavors will love it. Rice is included so it's really filling, and it had lots of siraegi (dried radish greens), so I was very satisfied. Songnim Bok at Ansan City Hall was such great value.
