Hyehwa, Seoul cake café: same-day hamster lunchbox cake at I'm Ellen

I suddenly needed a cake and called that day to ask if a lettering cake was possible — they said they had a few lunchbox-size ones ready, so I rushed right over haha. Here's my review of I'm Ellen, known as a top lettering cake spot in Hyehwa 😄

I'm Ellen's location, hours, and parking

I'm Ellen is on the 1st floor at 257 Changgyeonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Hyehwa Station Exit 4 😊 It's open daily from 11:00 to 20:00, and since there's no parking, you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot.

Interior seating and the dessert display

The inside of I'm Ellen is quite spacious with plenty of seats.

All kinds of desserts are on display and just looking at them makes me hungry ㅠㅠ There's roll cake, cheesecake, pound cake, scones, cookies, and even blueberry cream cheese toast.

Lettering cakes: same-day purchase or advance order

There's a fridge full of lettering cakes in different designs, so it's fun just to browse. There are whole cake sizes and lunchbox sizes. You can pre-order the design you want, or pick from what's already made that day.

They also sell a lot of cute little party supplies, so it's fun to browse those too haha.

There were also a lot of celebrity signatures on the wall. Makes sense given how well-known this place is as a top lettering cake spot in Hyehwa.

Cake-making experience classes too

Hamster lunchbox cake for ₩22,000 — how did it taste?

Since I needed it urgently that day, I picked the hamster-design lunchbox cake from what was already made.

The price was ₩22,000! haha I asked them to write 'Happy Birthday' in lettering on top, in hot pink. They said the lettering color can be whatever you want — I was surprised they even do light pink and hot pink varieties of pink lol lol lol. I picked up the cake fine and had the birthday party, and looking at it again, it was so cute ㅠㅠ

We blew out the candle and dug in with forks, and the sponge inside was so moist and fluffy.

Can you see how fluffy the sheet is hahaha? The cream tasted like it had cream cheese in it — sweet but with a bit of tanginess. Places known for lettering cakes in Hyehwa are usually all looks and no taste, but this one actually tasted really good too, so it disappeared fast lol. Next time I order I should get at least a size 1 cake lol.

The hamster's face slowly disappeared, but our mouths were happy lol. Goodbye hamster... rest in peace...
