Every weekend we ask ourselves the same thing: what should we eat? There's plenty of food around Rodeo Street in Namdong, Incheon, but it's not easy to find a place that feels like great value. Then we stumbled on Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch, which caught my eye with its lively entrance and friendly price board. I wanted to see for myself why it's been getting buzz lately, so I headed in without hesitating. Was it as good as I hoped? Let me show you honestly!

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch sits right in the middle of Rodeo Street in Namdong, Incheon, so it's very easy to get to. I went for the lunch special. As you can see in the photos, isn't the pricing amazing?

A clean, spacious interior

Inside, the hall is much bigger and more comfortable than I expected. The tables are nicely spaced and turnover is quick, so even if there's a wait, a seat opens up soon. The staff greeted us kindly too, so it passed with flying colors from the first impression. A real value-for-money spot in Guwol-dong.

What are the lunch menu prices at Veteran General Fish Market? (Unbelievable prices!)

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the menu. With today's prices, roe rice is ₩7,000 and the lunch special sashimi set is around ₩10,000 per person!

That day we ordered 1 lunch roe rice, 2 lunch special sashimi sets (size "Mi") and grilled mackerel. Even with that generous spread, the total came to only ₩46,800.

What's in the lunch special sashimi set?

The lunch special sashimi set at Veteran General Fish Market is a generous spread: sashimi with seasoned pollock roe as a side, sushi, spicy fish stew (maeuntang) and several kinds of tempura.

The lunch set filled the whole table, and the look of it alone made me gasp. The fresh sashimi was cut thick, chewy and springy. The set is so packed that the word "great value" hardly does it justice, and my chopsticks never stopped.

And the pricey seasoned pollock roe comes as a side dish, with refills?! Does the owner dig the money out of the ground?!!

Sushi, spicy fish stew and various kinds of tempura are included too.

The fresh sashimi melts in your mouth, and its quality goes well beyond the price.

How were the ₩7,000 stone-pot roe rice and grilled mackerel with a child?

The ₩7,000 roe rice at Veteran General Fish Market has rice toasted golden on the bottom of the stone pot (ttukbaegi), which makes it extra nutty.

The combination of popping flying fish roe, pickled radish and seaweed flakes was perfect. Since we had a child with us, we asked them to leave out the kimchi, and my husband gave it a thumbs-up and ate it up more than the kid did. (Of course, our child enjoyed it too ^^)

The grilled mackerel we ordered alongside (₩12,000) came crispy outside and moist inside, a taste everyone from kids to adults would love.

Here's the part that moved me: the owner had removed all the small bones from the mackerel. Being able to eat without picking out bones was truly the best. With its generous portion and great flavor, it makes a hearty, satisfying meal.

Is there dessert? Free coffee and ice cream

At Veteran General Fish Market Guwol Branch, there's a dessert corner on one side of the restaurant where you can enjoy coffee and ice cream for free after your meal. Another touching moment was waiting as we left! Not only cold coffee but sweet ice cream too, all free, for a perfect palate cleanser. With a great-value meal and dessert sorted, the whole meal felt that much more complete. 🍦☕

Final thoughts and will I return?

Veteran General Fish Market Guwol Branch was a great place to enjoy fresh sashimi, roe rice and grilled fish at friendly prices. With the free ice cream at the end on top, our satisfaction doubled at this Guwol-dong value spot. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a hearty lunch at a reasonable price. Next time I'm in Guwol-dong, I'm 200% coming back! 👍
