In short
Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch (정씨함박 배곧점) is a retro Western-style restaurant serving handmade hamburg steak on the 2nd floor of Avenue France's Orange Building in Baegot New Town, Siheung. On a weekend meal out, the writer had barley tea from a Del Monte bottle, a free starter of tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes, one free refill), the double-patty hambak with two patties, and a handmade sirloin pork cutlet served with smile potatoes. What is Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch like?
Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch (정씨함박 배곧점) is a retro-style spot for handmade hamburg steak (hambak) on the 2nd floor of the Avenue France building in the Baegot New Town commercial center. It's easy to get to, and parking was convenient too.
We always eat out on weekends, and this time we visited this well-known Baegot restaurant, a great pick for the whole family or for a date. The moment I stepped in, the warm, old-fashioned interior, like a classic upscale Western-style diner from the old days, put me in a good mood just by being there. Atmosphere, taste, service, nothing was lacking. Let me introduce it right away~~

What's the atmosphere inside Jeongssi Hambak?

The restaurant feels like an upscale Western-style diner, with antique wooden furniture, soft warm lighting and matching wallpaper. The atmosphere was really one of a kind and full of mood, thanks, I think, to the old-fashioned, cozy interior.
The tables are spaced generously, so it's roomy and comfortable for chatting over a meal without feeling cramped. The floor-to-ceiling windows make it look even bigger.
Nostalgic retro Del Monte bottle and the self-serve bar

At Jeongssi Hambak, cold barley tea comes in a glass Del Monte bottle, the kind every household had when we were kids. It made me smile as soon as I sat down. Even the small props fully commit to the retro concept, so it felt like a trip down memory lane.
There's also a clean, handy self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant.
Can you refill the starter tteokbokki at Jeongssi Hambak?

After you order, and before the main dishes arrive, Jeongssi Hambak serves tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) as a free starter, and you can get one free refill. Even though it's a freebie, as a big tteokbokki fan I thought it was so good.
The sauce really got my appetite going: sweet yet pleasantly spicy, just like the tteokbokki from the stalls in front of school. The rice cakes were chewy and soaked up the sauce, so good that I emptied the bowl in no time.

I was sad it was gone, and then the owner kindly told us we could get one free refill, so of course I had a second helping! Looking at the menu, tteokbokki is even sold as a standalone dish, so it seems to be a proud signature item for Jeongssi Hambak.
How are the double-patty hambak and handmade sirloin pork cutlet?
After whetting our appetites with tteokbokki, our main dishes, the double-patty hambak and the handmade sirloin pork cutlet, finally arrived one after the other.

Double-patty hambak with two thick patties
The double-patty hambak (곱배기함박) is the signature dish, topped with a whopping two thick, tender handmade patties. The special hambak sauce and a runny fried egg you break open blend smoothly with the rice and patties, so every bite was nutty, with juicy, moist meat filling my mouth. The sauce is so good~

Crispy, hearty handmade sirloin pork cutlet
The handmade sirloin pork cutlet (등심돈가스) is fried crunchy and crisp outside, with plenty of lean meat inside. It comes generously topped with old-school Western-style sauce, and the flavor was really appealing. Isn't this exactly what crispy outside, juicy inside means? I can't say for sure, but I think so!
It's plated generously with french fries, salad and smile potatoes, so it's perfect for winning over adults and kids alike. 👍
