Aewol black pork BBQ with jowl and raw fish cold noodles: Nopo Dwaeji
In short
Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is a black pork barbecue restaurant near Gwakji Beach in Aewol, Jeju, serving geun-gogi (thick-cut black pork) aged over 168 hours. On a 6pm dinner visit, the order started with 600g of black pork geun-gogi, then grew to add 200g of pork jowl, Jeju yellow crab doenjang (soybean paste) stew and bibim hoe naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles with raw fish), with staff grilling everything at the table from start to finish. Thanks to the quality of the meat, Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is worth recommending to anyone in Aewol who wants aged pork grilled for them.

A food you absolutely have to eat on a Jeju trip!! = black pork I went to try "Nopo Dwaeji Aewol"!! I wanted to see how different pork aged for 168 hours would taste~~~

Nearly full at 6pm, with a waitlist by the time we left
I got there around 6pm and it was almost completely full! By the time we finished eating, there was actually a waitlist forming. If I'd arrived just a bit later, I would've had to wait too! 😮💨 Seating ranges from 4-person tables to group tables — if you're going as a group, I'd recommend booking through Naver first!!

600g of black pork geun-gogi plus 200g of pork jowl
The meat menu has black pork geun-gogi (grilled cut pork), Jeju galmaegisal (skirt meat), and pork jowl. I first ordered 600g of the main black pork geun-gogi, then added 200g of pork jowl later since it wasn't quite enough~

They're running a Naver review event where writing a receipt review gets you one free stew or noodles, so if you're planning to have either, keep that in mind!

Side dishes, dipping sauces and the self-serve refill bar
Since I had a Naver reservation, the side dishes and tableware were all already set up at the table when I arrived haha The sides included dongchimi (watery radish kimchi), pickled chili, radish salad, pickled radish wraps, and lettuce salad. For dipping, they had wasabi, salt, and ssamjang (dipping sauce).

All the side dishes, including the wrap greens, can be refilled at the self-serve bar!!

168-hour aged black pork, grilled by staff start to finish
The black pork geun-gogi I ordered is made from belly and neck cuts aged over 168 hours, they said. It came slightly pre-grilled :) And a staff member handled the grilling at our table from beginning to end!! Having them grill it for us was so nice~~♡ Just be warned, it gets a bit quiet while they're grilling haha

The light pink meat looked so appetizing 🩷

Jeju yellow crab doenjang stew
I ordered the Jeju hwangge (yellow crab) doenjang stew for my dad to have too. A whole crab was in there, and it had deep crab flavor infused into it — clear but rich doenjang taste.

They said black pork geun-gogi turns tough and dry if grilled too long, so they grilled it to just the right doneness, and the neck meat was so soft and juicy 🩵

I ate some dipped in salt and wasabi, and some wrapped up in lettuce!

They lined up the rest of the grilled meat neatly in a row for us~~

This is the pork belly, grilled a bit more than the neck meat — crispy outside, tender inside~~

An extra serving of pork jowl, also grilled for us
Since it still wasn't quite enough, we added one serving of pork jowl~~~!! I thought they only grilled the geun-gogi, but they grilled the pork jowl themselves too!

Pork jowl really is on another level,, so much fat it's soft and the texture was insane!!!! The pork jowl was so delicious haha

Finishing with bibim hoe naengmyeon (raw fish cold noodles)
I wasn't going to, but ended up ordering bibim hoe naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles with raw fish) too hehe

The noodles had this strange, slightly crunchy texture like seaweed but were also chewy — such an interesting bite!! The sweet seasoning went really well with the meat haha The pollock hoe (raw fish) was also chewy and delicious.

After we finished eating and left, Nopo Dwaeji already had a waitlist going, wow.
Is Nopo Dwaeji Aewol worth it? Final verdict
