Today I'm introducing a great clam grill spot in Daegu, haha!

Where is Nampo in Gyodong, Daegu, and when does it open?

Nampo (남포) is a clam grill pub in Gyodong at 238 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu, near Exit 3 of Jungangno Station. Hours are Mon–Thu 18:00–02:00 (next day), Fri–Sat 17:00–03:00 (next day) and Sunday 17:00–02:00 (next day). For parking, use the Daegu City Hall Dongin Annex public parking lot.

I heard the name comes from the motto "Let's bring the spirit and ingredients of the southern sea, hard to find inland, straight to the table!!" 👍

What is the Nampo patio like?

Nampo is split into indoor seating and an outdoor patio, and the place is way bigger than I expected!! The inside has a nice mood too, but when I stepped out onto the patio, wow.. the atmosphere is so good ✨ With tasty grilled clams, the drinks just keep going down, hahahaha

I decided "you have to sit on the patio here!!" and grabbed a spot ✌️🩷 Sitting somewhere this nice after work, with a breeze blowing, felt so good. And Nampo grills its clams on a stone griddle (maekbanseok, a heated stone plate), which is unusual!! Wow… it's going to be even tastier, right?? 🍻

An acrostic poem for reservations, a belongings box on the patio

If you reserve at Nampo, they write you an acrostic poem (samhaengsi) from your name!! It was written so prettily that I was happy before I even ate 💕

When you take a patio seat, they also set out a separate box for your belongings~~ 🥹

What free starters come out at Nampo?

At Nampo, after you order and wait a little, the free starters come out: a pork cutlet with corn salad, followed by seafood kalguksu. Guys, this cutlet is plain but so good, haha. Eaten with the corn salad it's twice as tasty ✌️ I was hungry before the clams, so I finished it all right away 🤤

Then the seafood kalguksu comes as a freebie too!!! Wow… isn't that a steal?? 😎 It came with all kinds of vegetables, fried tofu, fish cake skewers, manila clams and the noodles, and it was so generous 👍👍👍👍👍

How do the 2-3 person (medium) clams taste grilled on the stone?

We ordered the Nampo clam grill for 2-3 people (medium)!! Wow.. doesn't it look amazing‼️ There was a lot, and it was piled with plenty of the cheese I love!! I wanted to grill and eat it right away 😋

They put the clams, shrimp and abalone on the piping hot stone first and grilled them for us~~ 🦐🐚 That day had a breeze and was a bit chilly, so hot seafood kalguksu with grilled clams was a great combo!! 🍃 The clams were super fresh, and with onion and cheese on top, grilled together and dipped in chojang (sweet-spicy vinegar chili sauce), they were tender, soft and nutty 🍽️ There was shrimp too, plump, and maybe even tastier because it was stone-grilled 😍

Staff show you how to grill

Whenever I eat grilled clams I never know how long to cook them, which is hard, but at Nampo the staff walk around and kindly show you how to grill, which I appreciated 😊 The abalone was very fresh with a wonderfully chewy texture! The pen shell's seasoning is the real kick!! 😋 It was so good that I grilled scallops nicely and put them into the pen shell seasoning to eat together!!

How is the side dish mukchammari at Nampo?

Mukchammari is tuna gimbap (seaweed rice roll) rolled in aged kimchi. I ordered it because I felt a little empty while eating the clams~~ The look is crazy, right?? ❤️ It was so thick I could barely fit it in one bite. Tuna gimbap with aged kimchi!!! 🍙 Having one in between the grilled clams really goes well ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Is there a wait for the Nampo patio?

The Nampo patio seats fill up fast, so go early; if you come a bit late, a wait is a must‼️‼️ While eating it got dark, and the patio mood got even better, haha. There are lights, and it was so~~ pretty. I kept staring at it as I ate ✨🎊 Maybe because Nampo is both a great clam grill and a great-atmosphere spot, the patio fills quickly, so you need to come early!!

After we finished and paid, the staff even packed ice cream for us so cutely 🍦🍦

Nampo in Gyodong, Daegu: overall verdict

First off, the patio atmosphere at Nampo, the clam grill in Gyodong, Daegu, was so good!! It's been getting hot lately, so eating on a patio when the evening breeze blows is lovely, right?? Nampo fits that perfectly 👍 The clams were fresh and good quality, even the free starters were generous and tasty, so I left very satisfied~~ I enjoyed the side dish mukchammari too, and finally the ice cream dessert~~ In a word, perfect from start to finish 💯💯 If you're looking for a good place in Gyodong, Daegu or an atmospheric pub in Daegu, I definitely recommend Nampo!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
