Offal soup with extra seonji in Manchon-dong, Daegu: Jeju Seobine

In short

Jeju Seobine Haejangguk, Manchon Direct Branch (제주섭이네해장국 만촌직영점) is a hangover soup and gukbap restaurant in Manchon-dong, Suseong, Daegu. On a first visit to the Manchon branch after years at the main branch, the writer ordered naejangtang (beef offal soup, ₩12,000) with extra seonji (congealed ox blood, ₩3,000), served generously on the side, and a Jeju pork loin jumbo tonkatsu (₩12,000) bigger than her hand. The spicy broth and crispy pork cutlet made a filling meal for two at Jeju Seobine Haejangguk.

Jeju Seobine Haejangguk (제주섭이네해장국) is a famous hangover soup spot in Daegu. I've been to the main branch many times, but this was my first visit to the Manchon Direct Branch. We ordered naejangtang (beef offal soup) with extra seonji (congealed ox blood), plus a Jeju pork loin jumbo tonkatsu. The generous offal and the seonji served separately stood out, and the cutlet, big enough to shock me next to my hand, is amazing value. A filling meal and a Daegu restaurant I was happy with.

Jeju Seobine Manchon Direct Branch: how is it different from the main branch?

Jeju Seobine is where I go whenever I'm craving haejangguk (hangover soup). I've visited the main branch several times, but this time I finally tried the Manchon Direct Branch. It's a famous Manchon-dong, Daegu spot for seonji haejangguk and beef haejangguk, so my expectations were high, and it didn't let me down.

Spacious, clean interior of the Manchon Direct Branch

The Manchon branch has a really big parking lot, and the restaurant is spacious and clean, so it's a nice place to eat. It was busy at lunchtime, but tables turn over fast, so we didn't wait long. I thought this Manchon-dong hangover gukbap (rice soup) place would work for solo meals, family outings or office lunches.

My husband ordered the naejangtang without a second thought, and added extra seonji (₩3,000) on top.

The seonji comes in its own bowl, and the portion was quite generous. I liked that you can add as much as you like to suit your taste, and the soup itself was packed with offal.

Like a proper Manchon-dong favorite, the offal was tender rather than chewy, and it went well with the rich broth. It looked more than good enough for a hangover cure or just a hearty meal.

Jeju pork loin jumbo tonkatsu, bigger than a hand, for ₩12,000

I was seriously torn between the beef haejangguk and the Jeju pork loin jumbo tonkatsu. People around me kept saying you have to try the jumbo cutlet, so this time I picked it. It's ₩12,000, and I was shocked at the size when it first arrived. The sauce had lots of button mushrooms and vegetables, which I loved!

I took a photo next to my hand, and it was much bigger than my hand. At this size, ₩12,000 is really good value. It was crispy outside and juicy inside, the Jeju pork loin had a nice chew, and there was so much that I was totally full by the end.

Ordering the soup and the jumbo cutlet together made the table really abundant. There's also a self-serve side dish corner, so you can help yourself to whichever side dishes you like.

Alternating between the spicy broth and the crispy cutlet was a great combo, and the two of us enjoyed a satisfying meal. Next time I want the beef haejangguk again, and the seonji gukbap too, haha.

Wrapping up

Jeju Seobine's Manchon Direct Branch gave us a meal every bit as satisfying as the main branch. My husband's naejangtang with extra seonji scored high thanks to the hearty ingredients and generous seonji, and my Jeju pork loin jumbo tonkatsu exceeded expectations with its huge size and great value.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Daegu restaurant with good hangover soup, and to anyone who loves a hefty cutlet. Next time I plan to come back for the beef haejangguk too!
