Mangpo Station Korean BBQ: fresh kimchi and naengmyeon, Olheun Gogi

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch (옳은고기) is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Mangpo Station that serves a pork set spread. There are really so many options when you look for a good BBQ place in Suwon, but it's harder than you'd think to find one with good meat quality, a clean restaurant and a satisfying set menu all together. Olheun Gogi was so satisfying that by the end of the meal I was thinking, "I want to come back here again."

Is parking easy at Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch?

There's space for about 4 cars in front of the restaurant. Parking is surprisingly important when eating out, and it wasn't a hassle to come by car. If it's full, you'll need to find a separate public car park, so keep that in mind!

Atmosphere and group seating

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean the interior was. The tables were spaced just right, so it never felt cramped while eating, and everything was well kept, which put me in a good mood to start the meal. Cleanliness matters a lot at BBQ places because of the grease and smoke, and I was happy with this too.

How are the side dishes? Try the napa cabbage geotjeori

The side dishes at Olheun Gogi were seasoned just right, mostly the kind that go well with grilled meat. I tried them one by one and every one was tasty. The napa cabbage geotjeori (freshly seasoned salad-style kimchi) was especially good.

Olheun pork set: what's in it and the price

What I ordered was the Olheun pork set (옳은 돼지 한상세트) for ₩118,000. True to a set spread, it came generously loaded with a pork assortment, Hanwoo yukhoe, grilled cheese and steamed egg, and being able to enjoy so many flavors at once was the biggest plus.

The pork assortment

The meat looked fresh just from the look of it, and the thickness was right, so it stayed full of juice when grilled.

When I took a bite, it was golden on the outside and moist inside, and the more I chewed, the richer the flavor of the meat got.

Each cut had a slightly different texture and flavor, so I didn't get tired of it until the end. If you come with several people, I think this one pork set alone would make a very satisfying meal. It's a set I'd happily recommend if you're looking for good pork in Suwon.

Grilled cheese

The grilled cheese in the set was a treat too. The cheese quality was good, and eaten together with the meat, the flavor doubled. The ultra-rich nuttiness made me so happy.

Hanwoo yukhoe

The Hanwoo yukhoe was really good too. The meat was so fresh that the moment I took a bite I went, "Wow..." The freshness was on par with a Hanwoo specialty restaurant, so it was a really satisfying experience. Being able to enjoy it in so many ways doubled my satisfaction.

Finishing with bibim naengmyeon and mul naengmyeon

After enjoying the meat for a while, I also ordered bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) and mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in chilled broth), and it was a really good decision. Finishing a meat meal with cold noodles is a combo that never fails, whenever you eat it.

The sweet-and-sour sauce of the bibim naengmyeon blended well with the noodles and went nicely with the meat, and the chilled broth of the mul naengmyeon neatly refreshed my mouth. Eating a piece of meat together with the noodles in particular meant no greasiness, and I enjoyed the meal to the very end.

There are so many BBQ places these days, but not many have meat quality, set composition, upkeep and overall satisfaction all together. What impressed me at Olheun Gogi was the set that lets you enjoy fresh meat and a variety of cuts at once, and the restaurant is clean too, so I think almost anyone you bring would be happy.
