Jazz dining bar in Seocho, Seoul: Brian Shin Quartet date, Flat Nine

On special days, you want to eat somewhere with a slightly different vibe, right? This time I went to Flat Nine in Gangnam, where you can enjoy a course meal together with a live jazz show. There's also a new ₩59,000 per person course starting October 12, so here's my pick for anyone looking for a date spot near Sinnonhyeon.

How do you get to Flat Nine Gangnam?

Flat Nine is about a 5-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 10, on the 5th floor of a building on Gangnam-daero 65-gil. There's a floor directory just inside the entrance on the ground floor, so if you check for Flat Nine there, it's easy to find.

In front of the entrance on the 5th floor, the live jazz lineup is posted. It's nice that you can see in advance which band is playing on the day you visit.

What's the atmosphere like inside Flat Nine Gangnam?

The inside of Flat Nine has calm lighting and stylish interiors, so it feels upscale and refined. Maybe because great live jazz and a special course meal are on offer, it suits a special evening very well.

The stage is set right in front of the seats, so you can watch live jazz up close while you eat. With atmospheric music, course dishes and drinks all in one place, it's a good pick when you want a time out of the ordinary. Flat Nine's new 59,000 won course: price and what's included

From October 12, 2026, Flat Nine is serving its new head chef's course for ₩59,000 per person. It's introduced as 7 dishes in total, from an amuse-bouche with caviar and truffle cream, to freshly baked brioche, Iberico steak, and a dark chocolate mousse topped with homemade vanilla ice cream.

In what order does the Flat Nine course come out?

Caviar and truffle cream amuse-bouche

The course is built so you work through several dishes in turn before the main. It starts with an amuse-bouche with caviar and truffle cream. What a luxurious first bite!

House-baked brioche

We were given brioche baked in-house, with butter and Maldon salt. The staff told us to save a little brioche to eat with the gangjeong (sweet crispy glazed dish) coming up later, and it's really good that way :)

Cauliflower gangjeong (sweet, crispy fried cauliflower)

This is cauliflower gangjeong on celeriac and parsnip purée, with a honey tuile. My boyfriend said it was so good he was sad watching it disappear, and ate it with tears in his eyes ,,, haha

Beef cheek ragu lasagna

This lasagna layers beef cheek ragu and mushroom duxelles béchamel, topped with chili con carne and pissenlit. The aroma was amazing the moment it came out. When I scooped up the ragu, sauce and toppings together in one spoonful, the flavors came together beautifully.

Basil sorbet

Before the steak came a basil sorbet sprinkled with olive powder as a palate cleanser. The moment it hit my mouth, a fresh burst spread and everything felt clean and reset. It got me even more excited for the steak :)

How was the Iberico steak main course?

The main of the Flat Nine course is a Cebo de Campo grade Iberico steak with Gruyère cheese sauce, pork jus, grilled king oyster mushroom and pickled beech mushrooms. You can switch to a Hanwoo 1++ striploin steak for an extra ₩20,000, so if you prefer Hanwoo (Korean beef), keep that option in mind.

Eating the Iberico steak together with the grilled mushrooms, onion and sauce made the flavor come alive even more! The taste shifted a little depending on what I paired it with, so I enjoyed it right to the end.

Dessert: dark chocolate mousse and homemade vanilla ice cream

The course ends with house-made dark chocolate mousse, homemade vanilla ice cream, berry marmalade and chocolate crumble. My boyfriend marveled that he'd never had such rich vanilla ice cream. He was surprised once by the vanilla ice cream and again by the deep dark chocolate mousse ,,, even the dessert left us satisfied ෆ

From the amuse-bouche through the main to the final dessert, the whole course was satisfying. With 7 dishes in total, it was fun to taste them one by one. On a special day, or when you want a relaxed meal, consider it if you're looking for a date spot near Sinnonhyeon.

What's the live jazz at Flat Nine like?

The biggest draw of Flat Nine is that you can watch live jazz right in front of you while you eat. The day we visited, the Brian Shin Quartet was playing. A quartet is a jazz ensemble made up of four players. Enjoying a tasty course while live jazz is played made mealtime feel even more special.

This is the team leader Brian Shin on saxophone. He looks expressionless ,,(?) but he told us not to worry, he's in a great mood haha. Unlike an ordinary dining room, getting live jazz unfolding right before your eyes is the charm of Flat Nine! If you want an atmospheric evening with music, it's a great date spot near Sinnonhyeon.
