Croquant caramel cornet pie and salt breads at Goyang KINTEX bakery

If you love bread, it's hard to walk past a bakery counter while browsing a department store food floor. I felt the same way at Hyundai Department Store KINTEX — the smell of fresh bread pulled me straight into Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX.

It's on the basement 1 food floor of Hyundai Department Store KINTEX, so it wasn't hard to find, and the variety of bread on display was bigger than I expected, so I ended up browsing for quite a while.

The five breads picked at Boulangerie Tan

I originally planned to buy just one or two, but once I actually saw the bread, I got curious about everything and ended up grabbing several!

This time I bought five items: mentaiko potato salt bread, olive cheese ciabatta, milk cream salt bread, croquant caramel cornet pie, and choco cream salt bread!

Boulangerie Tan is also apparently particular about the butter it uses — they use Lescure Charentes-Poitou AOP butter, which as a bread lover, I definitely take note of.

Personally, the cornet pie caught my eye the most. A crisply baked pastry with sweet filling inside made it feel more like a dessert, and it looked pretty enough that I thought it could work as a gift too. It turns out the cornet pie can actually be gift-wrapped.

You can also get coffee here, made with Fritz Old Dog beans. Taking bread home alone is great, but I think it would pair even better with a cup of coffee.

There was also an event that caught my eye during my visit — buy 3 salt breads and get 1 gourmet butter salt bread free. If you like salt bread, it's a great chance to try several kinds, so it's worth checking before you go. There's also a brunch set if you visit in the late morning to early afternoon window: between 10:30 and 14:00, you can get a carrot rapé salt bread and a cup of americano together for ₩9,900. I'm planning to try that next time — it seemed like a nice light brunch option for when one piece of bread just isn't enough.

The olive cheese ciabatta seemed like a good fit for anyone who likes plain, unsweetened bread. The chewy texture unique to ciabatta, combined with olives and cheese, gave a nutty, savory-salty flavor the more you chewed. Personally, this was the one I liked eating with coffee ☕️🫒

Milk cream salt bread vs. choco cream salt bread

Among the salt breads, I also picked the milk cream salt bread and the choco cream salt bread. The milk cream salt bread had a soft milk cream filling that paired well with the salty bread,

and the choco cream salt bread was, as expected, a flavor any chocolate lover would enjoy without complaint. With sweet cream and salty bread together, it didn't get sickly sweet, which surprised me 🍫

The croquant caramel cornet pie was memorable for its rich caramel cream inside crispy pastry! It felt like eating chewy caramel 🥧

I picked the mentaiko potato salt bread just for the name alone, since it's a combination I love. With salty mentaiko (marinated pollack roe) and mild potato inside, it felt a bit heartier than a plain salt bread. It also had a good buttery flavor from the bread itself, so it seemed more like a light meal than a snack.

Is Boulangerie Tan worth it if you want a bakery near KINTEX?

Overall, this is a good spot to swing by for a quick bread run while at the department store, or to pick a bunch of things and try them one by one at home. There's a wide range of salt breads in particular, so anyone who likes salt bread as much as I do will enjoy browsing. If you're looking for a bakery near KINTEX or planning a visit to Hyundai Department Store KINTEX, Boulangerie Tan is worth checking out. Even though I bought five kinds this time, I still kept eyeing the other breads, so I'll probably pick something different next time.
