Why dak hanmari for lunch after the Dongdaemun fabric market?
If you're looking for lunch in Dongdaemun, isn't it always going to be dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot)....?!?!?! Seriously so good,,,, I went to the Dongdaemun fabric market and ended up having dak hanmari for lunch after a while. I remembered enjoying it here before, so I went back to Sunhuine Bindaetteok Dak Hanmari, and honestly wondered how I ever forgot about this place. Not just the dak hanmari but the seafood mung bean pancake too — I really recommend ordering both.
Went to Dongdaemun Market, so lunch is dak hanmari!

I've been starting something small lately....! I kept just thinking about it without doing anything, so I finally went to Dongdaemun to give it a try, and after looking around it was already lunchtime. My sister had no appetite that day, so between us we thought, isn't Dongdaemun = dak hanmari, and immediately thought of Sunhuine Bindaetteok Dak Hanmari, which we'd loved before. We went straight there. I ate this two days ago and I'm already craving it again...
Inside Sunhuine Bindaetteok: two floors and seating for groups
The restaurant is spacious, so lots of groups come here too

The restaurant is big as expected, and since it was lunchtime, customers kept coming in — plenty of large groups too. So if you're having lunch with friends in Dongdaemun, or looking for a place for a group meal after market shopping, this spot is perfect!

That day we ordered dak hanmari (₩33,000) and seafood mung bean pancake (₩12,000). We really did well ordering both, haha.
The signature move at Sunhuine: mix the dipping sauce first

Once you order, they first bring out the dipping sauce that's practically the signature of dak hanmari, along with minced garlic, pickled onions, and kimchi.

There's even a guide on the table for how to enjoy dak hanmari properly, so you can just follow it.

When I eat dak hanmari, I think this dipping sauce is especially the kicker... that tangy, slightly spicy sauce you dip the chicken into deeply... it's been a while, but seeing it again, it's already delicious.
Is the 33,000-won dak hanmari enough for two?

The dak hanmari finally arrived! It comes out generously in a big metal bowl, and even as a two-person portion, the amount is quite a lot. If you don't eat much like us, and you also order the pancake, it could probably feed three or four people.

It comes with a whole chicken, potatoes, and rice cakes, and you boil it at the table. While we waited for the dak hanmari to boil, the seafood mung bean pancake arrived haha.
Seafood mung bean pancake while the chicken hot pot simmers

Honestly we came for the dak hanmari so I didn't expect much from the pancake when we ordered it, but........... wow..... it's seriously so crispy and delicious.

Crispy outside, moist inside, and you could actually taste the mung bean flavor as you chewed? My sister, who's been losing weight lately from no appetite, took one bite and immediately said it was so good ;;;;;;;;; and hilariously she ended up finishing half the pancake on her own...
Starting with the chewy rice cakes and potatoes

You boil the dak hanmari for about 10 minutes, and they told us to eat the potatoes and rice cakes first.

I picked up a well-cooked rice cake first. The rice cake was so soft and chewy.... it had properly soaked up the broth, so it was delicious just on its own. My sister, who was trying dak hanmari for the first time, was moved, saying she didn't know dak hanmari was originally this good. The chicken also gets tender as it simmers in the broth, and once you dip it in the sauce you made, you just keep eating more. The clean, savory broth typical of dak hanmari with the chicken, rice cakes, and potatoes, plus the dipping sauce — this is exactly the nostalgic Dongdaemun dak hanmari flavor,,
We were so, so full, but we couldn't not add the noodles. Once we added the knife-cut noodles, it was even more delicious.
Worth a return trip for lunch in Dongdaemun
I already had good memories of eating dak hanmari here, but eating it again this time, I thought "this really was this delicious..." If you're looking for a warm, filling lunch after browsing the Dongdaemun fabric market or Dongdaemun Jonghap Market, dak hanmari is the answer! We paired dak hanmari with the seafood mung bean pancake and the combination of the two menus was great. Most of all... I ate this two days ago and I'm already craving it again ㅠㅠ I need to bring my husband back here soon. If you're looking for a dak hanmari lunch spot in Dongdaemun, I recommend Sunhuine Bindaetteok Dak Hanmari — still just as good even after going back after a long time :)
