Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch (초부리김치찌개 고잔본점) is a Korean restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan, where you can have kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) together with gardenia pot rice. I was wondering what to eat for dinner on the weekend and suddenly craved a steaming bowl of kimchi stew, so I went! You never get tired of kimchi jjigae, and it just pops into your head out of nowhere, right? Choburi is good any time, and since you get pot rice along with the stew, it makes for an extra hearty meal 😘

If you look up places to eat in Gojan-dong these days, there's everything from meat restaurants to izakayas (Japanese-style pubs) and cafés, so a place where you can get a proper rice meal is a welcome change.

Choburi Gojan Main Branch has lots of tables, but it's often full 😊 It's near Ansan Lake Park, and I like that tables turn over quickly, haha.
Choburi kimchi jjigae set menu vs. à la carte
The Choburi set meal includes kimchi jjigae, pot rice, ramyeon, a fried egg and a drink, and à la carte you can order the kimchi jjigae or the pot rice. I ordered the kimchi jjigae on its own 😉

Ta-da, the Choburi kimchi jjigae! It's piled with chili flakes but isn't spicy, and it's delicious! If you need more broth, you can grab it from the refill bar.

Naver booking perk: free silver ear mushrooms
If you book through Naver and visit, Choburi Gojan Main Branch gives you silver ear mushrooms (eunyi mushrooms), and they're so nicely chewy and tasty 😘

When is Choburi kimchi jjigae ready to eat?
The jjigae boils furiously on an induction burner, and once the induction turns off, it's ready to eat. It's packed with tofu, kimchi and pork~ I let it boil for a bit and then poured in more broth, haha.

How is the gardenia pot rice served?
At Choburi in Gojan-dong, gardenia pot rice comes out when you order one menu item per person.

I scraped out the pot rice and set it aside to make scorched rice (nurungji)~ I hate mushy rice and love firm rice, so this was perfect.
What side dishes come with Choburi kimchi jjigae?
The basic side dishes are fish cake stir-fry, pickled chili peppers and seaweed. Ask the staff for the seaweed, and the fish cake stir-fry and pickled peppers are at the self-serve bar, haha.

Coming to Choburi in Gojan-dong, I discovered that pickled peppers (gochu jangajji) are an amazing side dish😋 I absolutely love them.
How does the kimchi jjigae taste with extra broth?
While you eat a bit of rice and the side dishes, the jjigae bubbles away, and you can dig in once the induction turns off by itself! First, scoop out one bowl,

then add broth and boil it more for a deep flavor, wow,,,,

Alternate bites of the silver ear mushrooms, tofu and kimchi jjigae and a whole bowl vanishes 🫢

The toppings are generous and it's so good,,,,, It's spicy and warming, so I keep thinking about it when the weather gets cold 😙

Finishing with gardenia pot rice nurungji (scorched rice)
I polished off a whole bowl of rice, so it's scorched rice time~

Scorched rice with fish cake stir-fry T_T I want to eat it like this whenever I have no appetite,,,

What can you refill at the Choburi self-serve bar?
At the self-serve bar at Choburi Gojan Main Branch, you can get unlimited refills of rice, perilla oil, pickled peppers, fish cake stir-fry and kimchi jjigae broth!

Choburi meal kit price and dessert options
If you buy the meal kit after eating at Choburi Gojan Main Branch, it's ₩18,000 for 3 servings! You can also buy extra rice or broth, and the pickled peppers from the self-serve bar were available to buy too. Oh, and apparently they've got Choburi doorknob delivery these days~

In summer they had a misugaru (roasted grain powder) slushie too, and with the three-color ice cream and the coffee vending machine, I headed home enjoying dessert, hehe.
