Mother-daughter late lunch at a Daehangno Indian restaurant: Meono

In short

Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch is an Indian and Nepali restaurant in Jongno, Seoul, 251m from Hyehwa Station Exit 4 on the second floor above the Aladin secondhand bookstore. A mother and daughter came for a late 3pm lunch and ordered Set B for two at 16,000 won per person plus palak paneer for 11,000 won, which brought tandoori chicken, chicken curry, butter naan and lassi to the table. The extra curry left them too full to finish the rice, but the naan-and-curry pairing at Meono Kkameona made the meal feel like a short trip abroad.

Indian dishes served at Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch

A few weeks ago my daughter said she wanted Indian food, and since her class before Chuseok got shortened so she'd finish early, we decided to meet up and eat Indian. I'd been out the day before so I dawdled a bit in the morning — by the time I left the house for the subway, her class had already ended. Oh no~~ 'Subway, hurry up and go faster.'

The entrance and the interior at Meono Kkameona

From the entrance, Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch's doorway and interior decor already carry the feel of Indian culture, sparking curiosity about the food to come.

Indian-style props were scattered everywhere, so the moment you step in you get an exotic feeling — the chef is reportedly Nepali, and the staff serving us were foreign nationals too.

A 3pm late lunch: which table to take, and which room is for groups

We'd planned to meet at 2, but I ran a bit late, so we ended up having a late lunch at 3 — sorry about that! Since it was such a late hour, we had the whole restaurant to ourselves.

This was a table in a room-style section. The table was big enough for a whole group of diners to eat together.

The Meono Kkameona menu and QR code ordering

The menu at Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch could be ordered via QR code. There were many set menus and à la carte items — I'd already looked at neighbors' reviews beforehand and had a rough plan, so my daughter and I ordered together after agreeing.

Ordering Set B for two plus an extra palak paneer

We ordered Set B for two (₩16,000 per person as listed) plus palak paneer (spinach curry) for ₩11,000 — a spinach curry made with fresh spinach and Indian cheese.

A refreshing, slightly sweet sauce came with the vegetable salad.

How the chicken curry, palak paneer and butter naan tasted

The chicken curry came with chicken already mixed in, so eating it with naan and the curry together was delicious (recommend~~). The spinach curry had a mild taste, like a thickened vegetable soup, with big chunks of Indian cheese giving it great flavor (recommend~~).

I wanted to try the spicy mutton curry too, but saved it for next time — adding one extra curry to the two-person set already left us way too full. Authentic curry is on a completely different level from the simple curry you cook at home; it's incredibly filling, and eating it with naan meant we couldn't even manage rice. On top of that, drinking lassi too gave us a bit of a blood-sugar spike.

I'd had good butter naan before, so butter naan it was again today. Wonderfully chewy, full of buttery flavor.

The rice was soft, not hard like some imported rice can be.

We tried the naan with the tandoori chicken, with the curry, and with the curry and salad together. I recommend trying it in several combinations.

Final thoughts: what made lunch at Meono Kkameona worth it

  • Exotic interior and tableware, plus exotic curry-and-naan pairings make for a nice short culinary trip
  • Clean interior, a local chef, and good service and flavor from the staff
