Hongdae indoor camping date: willow tree seat, lunchbox ramyeon: TAGE

TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch is a camping-themed indoor party room and pork belly restaurant on basement level 1 at 79 Wausan-ro in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday at 4 p.m., the writer sat at a monitor seat beside a giant willow tree and a Christmas tree and ordered 2 servings of fresh pork belly, soju and a ₩4,900 lunchbox ramyeon with egg. The noise from the shared karaoke was a letdown, but TAGE Indoor Camping delivers on atmosphere, meat and games as an indoor date spot in Hongdae.

Seongsu Thai restaurant: crispy pork belly hangover noodles, Thanon55

Thanon55 (타논55) is a Thai restaurant on a quiet side street in Seongsu, Seoul, a 5–10 minute walk from Seongsu Station. With a hungover companion, the writer ordered the Thai rice noodle and shrimp fried rice set (15,000 won) and the gamjatang (pork bone stew) rice noodles (14,000 won); the clear broth loaded with crispy pork belly and the fried rice topped with a soft-yolk fried egg stood out. Jeonpo Chinese bar for a non-spicy meal with parents: Mirim Yangjang

Mirim Yangjang Busan Main Branch is the flagship of a Peking duck bar-restaurant chain in Jeonpo-dong (Seomyeon), Busanjin-gu, Busan. Because the writer's father can't eat chili, the family ordered a non-spicy spread of half a Peking duck, duck fried rice, duck soup and stir-fried water spinach, and the parents liked the lean Peking duck so much they ordered another half. For a non-spicy Chinese meal with parents, Mirim Yangjang Busan Main Branch was a satisfying choice.

Hongdae dumpling takeout for a Mangwon Han River picnic: MANDOO BAR

MANDOO BAR is a dumpling restaurant and bar on the 2nd floor of a Red Road alley in Hongdae, on Eoulmadang-ro in Mapo, Seoul. Four light eaters picked up MANDOO BAR gyoza (9,000 won), the signature Mexican taco gyoza (13,000 won) and steamed dumplings (10,000 won) for a picnic at Mangwon Hangang Park. The pan-fried gyoza was still crackly 2–3 hours later, and the thin-skinned steamed dumplings won the group over.
