Pasta restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon with noodle choices: Plate

A calm Italian dining spot in Dunsan-dong

I was looking for an Italian restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Dunsan-dong lately, so I visited Plate Dunsan Branch. The fact that I could choose my own pasta noodles caught my eye, and it looked like a good place for a relaxed meal and date.

Plate Dunsan Branch is on the second floor of the building. Plate was also marked on the building directory as being on the second floor, so it was not hard to find on my first visit.

It was a good place to visit on a day when I wanted Italian food in Dunsan-dong. The atmosphere made it easy to talk over a meal, so I thought it would also suit anyone looking for a date spot.

Inside, there were lots of white and gray tones, giving the space a neat, calm feel. The large windows kept it from feeling closed in, and the tables and chairs suited the overall interior well.

The lighting was soft rather than overly bright or flashy, so it was nice for a comfortable conversation over dinner. It felt especially well suited to a quiet pasta date.

How do you choose your pasta noodles?

What I remembered most about Plate was being able to choose the pasta noodles myself. There was a separate guide at the table showing the noodle types, so I could choose according to my preference.

When you order pasta, it often comes with a set noodle type, but here the process of choosing your own added a little fun to picking the menu. If you eat pasta often, I think it could be fun to try different noodle types on different visits.

Classic Meatball Bolognese and Creamy Rosé Pasta

This time, I ordered the Classic Meatball Bolognese and Creamy Rosé Pasta. A salad came with them too, topped with tomatoes, corn, and vegetables, and it paired nicely with the pasta.

The Classic Meatball Bolognese came with both noodles and meatballs, so it looked quite hearty as well. The sauce worked nicely with the noodles, and eating it with the meatballs made each bite feel even more substantial.

Above all, being able to choose noodles that were different from standard spaghetti definitely stayed with me.

Among the pasta I have tried, the option to choose my noodles made this one a little more fun to enjoy. Personally, I really enjoyed the food too, so even as I alternated between the dishes, I kept reaching for more.

The Creamy Rosé Pasta also had sauce that blended well with the noodles, making it smooth and easy to eat overall. Ordering both pastas let me alternate between two distinct flavors, so I was happy with the choice.

With Italian dishes, a rich sauce can sometimes start to feel a little heavy toward the end, but having the salad alongside them made for a nice combination.

Steak is what I want to try next time

I tend to look at the atmosphere as well as the food. Plate Dunsan Branch was a place where I could enjoy both at once, so it suited a date meal nicely too.

This visit, I ordered mainly pasta, so I did not try the steak separately. Rather than commenting on dishes I have not eaten, I will keep this post focused on the pasta. Still, if you like Italian food and are looking for steak as well as pasta, it may be worth taking your time with the menu. I enjoyed the pasta this time, so if I visit again, I think my eyes will naturally go to the other dishes too.

Plate Dunsan Branch felt neat and comfortable rather than overly formal, making it a good place for an easygoing dinner date. Choosing my own pasta noodles was fun, and I was personally happy with the food, so I finished the meal feeling good.

If you are looking for a restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Dunsan-dong, or are curious about pasta where you can choose your noodles for a change, I think it is worth a visit. I did not get to try the steak this time, but on my next visit I would like to slowly enjoy other Italian dishes alongside the pasta. What stayed with me most about Plate Dunsan Branch was being able to choose my own pasta noodles and eat comfortably in its calm atmosphere.
