Dangjin squid restaurant for group dinners with boiled squid: Ojjingeo
In short
Ojjingeo Dangjin (오찡어 당진점) is a squid restaurant near the Daedeok-dong food alley in Dangjin, Chungnam. Four adults ordered squid stir-fry for 2, a medium boiled squid platter (ojingeo suyuk) and self-cook fried rice, and the minari-heavy squid chohoe (vinegared squid salad), the boiled squid and the smoky squid stir-fry were all satisfying. With a spacious hall and several private rooms, Ojjingeo Dangjin works as well for a meal or drinks as for a company dinner or group gathering.

What kind of place is Ojjingeo Dangjin?
Ojjingeo Dangjin (오찡어 당진점) is a squid specialist near the Daedeok-dong food alley in Dangjin. The menu is packed with squid dishes: stir-fry, hot pot, sukhoe (blanched squid), suyuk (steamed squid) with chohoe (tangy dressed salad), and more.
It was recommended to me as a Dangjin favorite, but I'd already taken food from here to go on a trip to Dangjin, so I knew the taste was proven ^^

Is there parking at Ojjingeo Dangjin?
Yes, there are parking lots beside and behind the restaurant, so it's easy to get to.

A squid specialist! I walked in feeling excited.

As you'd expect from a squid specialist, squid is the star of every dish. There's also a lunch special until 14:00, so it looks like a good-value lunch spot for office workers nearby.

Is Ojjingeo Dangjin good for company dinners and group gatherings?
The inside feels clean and tidy, spacious, with more tables than I expected. There are also several rooms, so you can eat in a private, comfortable space.
I think it suits company dinners and groups well. If you want a room, I'd recommend reserving. We were four adults and sat in an open, airy spot.

Ojjingeo menu and what four adults ordered
The main dishes at Ojjingeo Dangjin are squid hot pot, stir-fry, jeon (pan-fried pancake), suyuk and tangsuyuk, and there are set menus that include jeon. Extras include meals like kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), chonaengguksu (cold noodles) and pork cutlet.
- Squid stir-fry (2 portions)
- Steamed squid (medium)
- Self-cook fried rice (2 portions)
The side dishes are simple and refillable at the self-serve bar. That cool dongchimi (radish water kimchi) was amazing.

How does the steamed squid come out?
The steamed squid comes with a chohoe of squid, minari (water dropwort) and vegetables, all tossed together. A whole spread of appetizing dishes arrived in a flash.

Tender boiled pork-style slices and sweet-and-sour squid chohoe, perfect with drinks.

Before this I'd only had the squid stir-fry and jeon, so I tried the suyuk for the first time. The tender, nicely boiled slices with no gamey smell and the squid salad with its sweet-and-sour dressing as the kicker went really well wrapped together.
It has lots of minari, which I love, and its fragrance lifts the flavor even further.

Delicious snacks without a drink would be a foul, so I had another glass ^^

How does the signature squid stir-fry taste?
The signature squid stir-fry at Ojjingeo Dangjin is a total rice thief.

It was packed with big pieces of squid and vegetables, so much that I wondered if we'd really ordered only 2 portions. Full of fire-grilled flavor, it felt like it was cooked quickly so the squid kept its springy texture.

A savory squid stir-fry with a nicely balanced spicy-sweet flavor.

Rice mixed into the sauce was pure heaven. The squid stir-fry is a highly recommended dish 🩷

Squid tangsuyuk as a receipt review service
Be sure to try the squid tangsuyuk you get for writing a Naver receipt review at Ojjingeo Dangjin.

Crispy squid tangsuyuk soaked in a sweet sauce, a flavor kids would surely love.

Do you cook the fried rice yourself at Ojjingeo?
Yes, the fried rice at Ojjingeo Dangjin is self-cook. We were already stuffed... but we couldn't leave that tasty sauce behind, so we added fried rice!

Since it's self-cook, the fried rice chef of our house showed off his skills 🤣👍

Salty fried rice with squid on top, wrapped in a ssam... it was seriously amazing haha. We cleaned out the stir-fry and suyuk without leaving a speck of sauce.
With food good enough for a meal or drinking snacks, plus a big restaurant with rooms, Ojjingeo Dangjin is a great Dangjin spot for company dinners or gatherings. We ate well and will be back soon.
