Haeundae eel restaurant: pre-grilled soy eel for two at Pungcheonman

In short

Pungcheonman Freshwater Eel (풍천만민물장어) Haeundae Jungdong Main Branch is a freshwater eel restaurant at the start of Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan. After a walk along the Haeundae seafront with a friend, the writer ordered the soy-marinated grilled eel set for two with gondeure (Korean thistle) pot rice, nutritious pot rice and eel soup. The eel arrives already grilled over charcoal and only needs a light warm-up on the table brazier, so there is no smoke or oil splatter. Pungcheonman Freshwater Eel is a good pick in Haeundae for a restorative eel meal without grilling it yourself.

Above all, it had the dependable feel of a real eel specialist. It really felt like we'd come to restore our energy. They say it's 100% domestic first-grade eel! Even before going in, I had a feeling it would be delicious!

What are the interior, private rooms and smart farm like?

The restaurant is really spacious and comfortable~ The hall is big, and there are various private rooms too, so it looks great for family gatherings or company dinners.

The most fascinating thing was the smart farm! They grow fresh vegetables right in one corner of the restaurant, so it's fun to look at, too.

They say the rice is cooked with Cheorwon Odae rice, which is highly regarded as top-quality.

The self-serve bar had plenty of wrap vegetables and side dishes, and being able to refill the fresh vegetables as much as you like made me really happy.

They say they use only domestic Japonica live eel, which made me trust them even more. It's live eel, not frozen, so the freshness is clearly different.

The menu centers on grilled eel, with various set combinations too! We ordered the most popular grilled eel set for two, and the lineup was really generous.

Ordering by tablet was convenient, and you can choose your pot rice according to your taste.

We ordered the soy-marinated grilled eel set for two, choosing gondeure (thistle) pot rice and nutritious pot rice, and the set also comes with eel soup.

Side dishes and sauces

The basic table setting is neat and generous: white kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), jangajji (pickles) and wrap vegetables. Every one of them went perfectly with the eel, and there were various sauces such as salt, eel sauce and soy sauce, so you can enjoy it your own way.

The wrap vegetables grown in the smart farm were especially crisp, and eating them with the eel was the best, the best combination! It was also really satisfying that you can have unlimited side dishes and vegetables.

Doesn't the nutritious pot rice look delicious just from the pot?

The gondeure pot rice was generously loaded with gondeure and had a really deep, nutty flavor.

And a whole earthenware bowl of eel soup, too!

How did the eel taste?

The soy-marinated eel here had no gamey smell at all, golden on the outside and moist inside, and it melted softly in the mouth.
