What is Pungcheonman Freshwater Eel in Haeundae like?
Pungcheonman Freshwater Eel Haeundae Jungdong Main Branch (풍천만민물장어 해운대본점) is a freshwater eel place in Haeundae, Busan, with a big hall and private rooms. The hall is very spacious and there are rooms too, so it's a good spot for a family gathering or an important meal in Haeundae.
It runs its own smart farm, so you get fresh wraps, and the neatly pre-grilled eel made it one of the more memorable Haeundae restaurants for me. Also, as you can see on Naver Place, it's corkage-free, so it works well when you want to enjoy eel with a good bottle of something.
Location, hours and parking
The restaurant is near Haeundae Rodeo Street at 22 Dalmaji-gil, Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea, and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Break time is 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
It's not bad for access to major hotels like Paradise Hotel, and it's fairly close to Haeundae Beach, so it fits nicely into a day's route.

This is the entrance area. There's an underground car park right next door, so parking is easy if you come by car.

How are the smart-farm wraps and self-serve bar?
Near the entrance there's grade-1 domestic pungcheon eel (풍천장어, river-and-sea eel), and right beside it is the smart farm, whose greens you wrap the eel in. Since the restaurant grows the wraps itself in the smart farm, it feels like a slightly healthier meal.

It seems to be a Haeundae landmark that plenty of celebrities have visited.

The self-serve bar in the inner hall has plum tea and a variety of wraps you can grab freely. The greens are said to be organically grown, and maybe that's why they tasted very fresh.

Are the hall and rooms good for group meals?
We were shown to the inner hall. There's a hall by the entrance too, but the inner one felt bigger. There are also a few private rooms, so if you need a private gathering, it's worth booking ahead.
Lunch special eel set for two: price and what's included

We ordered the lunch special, the grilled eel set for two, at ₩59,000. It comes with 1 eel, eel soup or doenjang stew, and 2 pots of rice, and it's so generous that ₩59,000 feels like a bargain.
The organic wraps I mentioned are unlimited refills, so it makes for a hearty meal.

Every table has a guide to the benefits of eel and how to enjoy Pungcheonman eel. Try different combos, like salt with pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi), and you'll find the one that suits you best.

Pre-grilled eel: what about the smell?
The eel is pre-grilled before it's brought to your table, so there's no smell and the meal stays pleasant.

The eel that came to our table after the pre-grilling was nicely crispy and delicious, and it went wonderfully with the rich eel soup.
Why the eel soup stood out
Personally, I thought the eel soup in the set was really good. The broth is rich and the contents are hearty, so a bowl of rice and a bowl of eel soup alone would be enough to finish a lunch.

With the side dishes, it became a really lavish lunch spread. They also gave us plenty of salt, soy sauce, ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste) and ginger to dip the eel in, which went nicely with it.

Pot rice, all the way to nurungji tea
Scoop the rice out of the pot, pour in water, and make sungnyung (scorched rice tea)! The rice was so good that even though I'm trying to cut carbs as much as I can, I ended up eating over two thirds of it.
