Ansan butcher shop yukhoe at ₩9,900 a pack for two meals: Morakmorak

In short

Morakmorak Home & Cook is a Korean beef (hanwoo) and Korean pork (handon) butcher shop in the basement of Star Plaza traditional market in Seongpo-dong, Ansan, also selling marinated meats and soups. The writer's children picked the Morak signature marinated yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) as the best item, so three packs at ₩9,900 each came home and covered both breakfast and lunch, with seasoning that was neither sweet nor salty enough to hide the beef. Between the value, the portion size and the owner's friendly service, Morakmorak Home & Cook is worth another trip.

Signature marinated yukhoe brought home from Morakmorak Home & Cook

My kids, who love yukhoe (raw seasoned beef tartare), said "the yukhoe here is the best!" I figured one pack would leave us wanting more, so this time I brought home three packs outright. The result: yukhoe for breakfast, yukhoe for lunch. And yet I'm already craving it again. Haha :) Between the value, the taste, and the service, this is one of my top picks among Ansan butcher shops — let me introduce Morakmorak Home & Cook.

Where is Morakmorak Home & Cook, and is there parking?

Entrance of Morakmorak Home & Cook on basement 1 of Star Plaza, Seongpo-dong

Morakmorak Home & Cook is on the basement level of Star Plaza traditional market in Seongpo-dong. It's about a 5-minute walk from Ansan Bus Terminal and Lotte Mart, making it easy to stop by while grocery shopping. From Jungang Station Exit 1, it's about 1km away.

You can use the building's parking lot, and get 4 hours free with a store visit. The parking window is very generous, so you can take your time picking meat and browsing the market.

A butcher shop stocked like a side-dish store

Fully stocked butcher shop display case

Walking in, what catches your eye first is a display case that's fuller than a typical butcher shop's.

Refrigerated showcase with hanwoo and hanwoo pork on display
Fridge packed with soup and stew products
Packaged gomtang and seolleongtang products on display

Hanwoo (Korean beef) and hanwoo pork are the basics, but there's also a wide range of marinated meats and soups you can cook straight at home. Hanwoo gomtang (bone broth soup), seolleongtang, galbitang, as well as oxtail soup and doganitang (ox knee cartilage soup) are all available. Browsing through the fridge and freezer, you end up picking not just tonight's dinner but tomorrow's meal too.

Hanwoo and hanwoo pork handmade jumbo tteokgalbi on display

There was also handmade tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) you can just microwave. The jumbo tteokgalbi made from hanwoo and hanwoo pork is ₩2,500 a pack, easy to grab without a second thought. There was also a 4+1 promotion running for purchases of two or more. It's a practical option for kids' side dishes or a quick meal in a pinch.

How many house-made marinated meats does Morakmorak sell?

Showcase of hanwoo pork jjimgalbi and marinated LA galbi
Marinated LA galbi on display, sauce soaked into the meat

The showcase had hanwoo pork jjimgalbi and marinated LA galbi looking delicious. The marinated LA galbi is ₩4,580 per 100g, and the hanwoo pork jjimgalbi is ₩15,000 per kg. The marinade soaks into the meat so all you need to do at home is grill or simmer it. Making the marinade yourself takes a lot of work, so being able to buy exactly the amount you need is really convenient.

Display case of Chuncheon-style dakgalbi and jeyuk bokkeum

Another case had Chuncheon-style dakgalbi, soy sauce jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried pork), gochujang jeyuk bokkeum, and sirloin bulgogi.

Price tag for soy sauce and gochujang jeyuk, 600g

Soy sauce and gochujang jeyuk are both ₩8,900 for 600g. Given today's dining-out prices, that's a generous portion for one meal, so the value is great. With pork jjimgalbi, dakbal (chicken feet), and beef bulgogi among the options, this would also suit anyone looking for Ansan meal kits.

The fridge also had grilling cuts like samgyeopsal and moksal, along with useamgyeop and daepae samgyeopsal (thin-sliced pork belly). They said hanwoo pork undergoes 10 days of water aging, and hanwoo arrives weekly and is aged for about 20 days. They'll also cut to your preferred thickness or use, which makes it convenient to order for grilling or as a gift.

Galbitang packed with hanwoo beef, ₩12,000

Refrigerated display packed with finished soups and stews

Below the meat cases, finished soups and stews are packed in tightly. Among them, the meat-packed galbitang is ₩12,000 a pack. It's made with broth simmered from a whole hanwoo's worth of bones, with about 440g of galbi and 10kg of brisket added. Radish, scallion, whole garlic, ginger, and whole peppercorns go in too, for a hearty, gamey-smell-free dish. It's not just named "meat-packed" for show — the description emphasized that it wins on meat quantity rather than seasoning.

Packaged hanwoo gomtang made from hanwoo leg bones
Packaged seolleongtang products on display

There's also hanwoo gomtang and seolleongtang made by boiling hanwoo leg bones directly, good to stock in the fridge. On busy days you just heat it up and the meal is done, so these kinds of items disappear fast even if you buy several packs.

The star buy: Morak signature yukhoe at ₩9,900 a pack

And our family's favorite menu item is, of course, the Morak signature marinated yukhoe. One pack is ₩9,900. That's a total steal, isn't it.

Hanwoo yuksashimi on display, ₩10,000 per pack

Hanwoo yuksashimi (raw beef slices) is ₩10,000 a pack, so anyone who loves yukhoe will likely want both.

Cleanly kept meat-preparation work area

Watching the meat get trimmed right there in a cleanly kept work area builds even more trust.

Scallion strips and minced garlic provided alongside

They also packed in scallion strips and minced garlic. At home, all you have to do is plate it nicely and top it with an egg yolk.

Marinated yukhoe plated at home

After refrigerating it, we made the yukhoe fresh the next morning. It was already seasoned, so all we had to do was drizzle a couple swirls of sesame oil and toss it together.

How the yukhoe tasted at home over breakfast and lunch

A plate of yukhoe served with pear on the side

Served generously with pear on the side, it was every bit as good as yukhoe from a proper restaurant. The yukhoe looked fresh from its red color alone, and the meat wasn't tough — it was soft and tender to chew.

Close-up of the yukhoe's red color

The seasoning wasn't overly sweet or salty. It brought out a savory flavor without masking the taste of the meat. Paired with the crisp, cool pear, it added a hint of sweetness that kept us reaching for more.

Yukhoe mixed with a broken egg yolk

Breaking the yolk and mixing it in evenly brought the savory flavor fully to life. No wonder the kids say the yukhoe here is the best.

A second table of yukhoe served for lunch after breakfast

We bought three packs, ate one in the morning, and pulled out another at lunch. If two meals of yukhoe in one day still tastes this good, I feel like that says it all :)

Would I buy from Morakmorak again? Final verdict

This is a place where you can buy fresh hanwoo and hanwoo pork, handmade marinated meats, yukhoe, and soups all in one stop. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Above all, the owner is super kind and looks after customers so well that every visit feels like a pleasant shopping trip. In my book, this is genuinely one of the most satisfying butcher shops in Ansan!

The Morak signature yukhoe in particular is our household's favorite — the kids ask for it before anyone else does. Three packs disappeared fast, so now I'm wondering how many to buy next time. If you're looking for good-value Ansan hanwoo or easy-to-cook Seongpo-dong meal kits, it's worth stopping by Morakmorak Home & Cook. I'll be heading back for more yukhoe soon myself.
