Today I'm sharing an honest review of a really filling, tasty meal at Haemul Teukbyeolsi (해물특별시) Bucheon Station branch, a monkfish stew (agujjim) restaurant near Bucheon Station!

Location and how to get to Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch
Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch is a 5-minute walk from Bucheon Station, on a street in a popular hangout area. It's an easy monkfish stew spot to reach by public transport.

Inside Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch: good for groups?
The inside is nicely spacious, with about 15 tables, so it looks good for group gatherings or company dinners. It's popular enough that there are usually waits, and I heard a second branch has opened in Cheongna.

Isn't that the nostalgic orange juice water bottle?! I feel like I saw these back in elementary school, so good to see one again haha.
Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch is a monkfish stew place that has been on several TV shows, including Saengsaeng Jeongbotong.

What's on the menu at Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch?
Monkfish stew is the main menu, and there's a good variety of sides that go well with drinks, like pajeon (scallion pancake) and jjagyechi. The place is famous for its stone-plate monkfish stew.

How are the side dishes and corn cheese?
The side dishes come out first, and compared with other monkfish stew places there are more kinds and they're served generously.

Above all, the corn cheese!!! They give this much?! It comes out freshly made and piping hot, and it's sweet, so it's great to nibble on between bites of stew.

I think a refill costs ₩5,000, if I remember right!! But it's good enough that you'll want to order more.

The potato salad and seaweed soup were tasty too, so I was already filling up on side dishes before the main even arrived.

Price and setup of the 1–2 person boneless monkfish stew plate
This time I ordered the 1–2 person monkfish stew, switched to boneless, added octopus, and got a rice ball. The look of the main dish surprised me!
- 1–2 person monkfish stew ₩28,000
- Switch to boneless ₩2,000
- Add octopus ₩10,000
- Rice ball ₩3,000

The boneless monkfish stew at Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch comes on a plate rather than a stone plate when you order the 1–2 person size, and you can add squid or octopus to it.
I heard that if you write a review for the event, squid or octopus can be added at 50% off. Why wouldn't you do that!?!?
The octopus is so plump and big!! There's already a lot to eat, but please add it anyway, it's a treat!!!

How did the boneless monkfish stew taste?
I can't be bothered with picking out bones, so I ordered boneless, and boneless monkfish stew is just so good!!!

Monkfish is a mild, tender fish, and the sauce here is nicely spicy and salty on the outside, so they pair well.

Milt (gони) and sea squirts (mideodeok) are in there without holding back, which made this monkfish stew really easy to enjoy.

It's good on its own, but dipped in the wasabi soy sauce it's even better, right!?!?

There were also loads of crunchy bean sprouts, which I ate plain and piled on top of the rice ball. Honestly, everything was delicious!!!
Rice balls instead of fried rice with the plate-style stew
With the stone-plate version, fried rice would be the real treat, but since this was the plate-style stew, I ordered a rice ball (₩3,000) that goes well alongside.

It seems like something you could easily make at home, so why does it taste better? Even the rice balls at Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch are delicious!!
Is Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch worth a return visit?
Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch has great flavor and big portions at fairly reasonable prices, and the owner was super kind, so nothing was lacking!! I was so satisfied that I plan to go again, and I recommend it if you're looking for monkfish stew near Bucheon Station or a good restaurant in Bucheon.
