Paju ssambap restaurant to end a Forest of Wisdom day trip: Simhaksan
In short
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (rice with leafy-green wraps) restaurant on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi, a 5-minute drive from Paju Lotte Outlets. After a Paju day trip to the Forest of Wisdom and Lotte Outlets, the family had dinner at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap. They ordered 2 Deul sets with ojingeo jeyuk (spicy stir-fried squid and pork) and 1 mackerel for the child, with pot rice, doenjang stew, self-serve greens and dessert coffee and ice cream. While we were in Paju, we did the whole thing like a package tour! Haha. We went to the Forest of Wisdom (Jihye-ui Sup), then Lotte Outlets, and when we got hungry we headed to Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap (심학산 들꽃쌈밥).

Our Paju day trip route
This Paju day trip started at Imjingak and ended with dinner at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap. Watch out for the heat in summer!
- Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park (packed lunch)
- On the Rail café (coffee recharge)
- National Folk Museum of Korea, Paju (free)
- Forest of Wisdom
- Paju Lotte Outlets
- Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap (dinner)

After the Forest of Wisdom~

The Forest of Wisdom had no seats, so we retreated to the outlets! Everyone seemed to be escaping the heat there, so parking was a nightmare, while the outlets were too hot for most people and parking was easy, haha.

Nobody is outside because of the heat, haha. We retreated again, to Lotte Cinema on the 4th floor! There's a mini arcade here, lol.

Riding a carousel in this heat... ah, the energy of youth (?). I also took a photo of the floor map, just because. I'm hungry~ let's go eat!

How far is Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap from Paju Lotte Outlets?
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a 5-minute drive from Paju Lotte Outlets, or about 15 minutes on foot. We came to eat squid and spicy pork, and to feed our little one mackerel, hehe. Somehow, feeding a kid mackerel and ssambap when eating out feels like feeding them well, lol.

How did they get the lettering onto the chair?
Waiting at 5 p.m., seating and high chairs
When we arrived at 5 p.m. there was no wait, but you can register for one. It was fairly busy, so I just took a photo of an empty seat.

Tabling ordering like this is everywhere these days. Pretty convenient! There are more seats further inside, but that area hadn't opened yet. The view is nice. They have high chairs too~!

This is the waiting area!

What we ordered at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap: 2 Deul sets, 1 mackerel
After looking at the menu, we ordered 2 Deul sets (deuljeongsik) and 1 mackerel.

The wrapping greens are self-serve~!

Doenjang stew, side dishes and pumpkin porridge
The doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is so good, T_T It bubbles away on an induction burner so you can eat it hot.

The side dishes aren't heavily salted and are all tasty~ The pumpkin porridge is good too, T_T

I took a little of each kind of green. Oh, and I didn't know it came with pot rice! T_T I love pot rice so much T_T

Squid and spicy pork: can kids eat it?
The Deul set comes with squid and spicy pork together. The bowl looks small but it's deep, so the meat keeps coming.

I ordered mackerel for the child in case it was spicy, but the squid and pork wasn't spicy and the squid was tender, so our little one ate plenty. They also have Spam egg rice for kids (₩8,000).
Freshly cooked pot rice and nurungji
Steam rises from the freshly cooked rice~ Scoop out the rice, then make nurungji (scorched rice) in the pot. It's hot and so gentle on the stomach!

My husband loved it, saying it tasted like the stir-fried squid (bokkachi) he used to eat in Yeouido, lol. Tender squid~ It's a great place to bring kids or your parents!
The staff are all so kind, but a young staff member, like a nephew to me, burned their hand setting down the hot plate, which broke my heart T_T Isn't there some kind of glove that stops burns?

The crowd thinned out for a bit, so I took a photo.

Dessert coffee, ice cream and the receipt review lottery
Whoa, Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap even has coffee and ice cream for dessert?

So prettily served~ haha. And it tastes good too?

If you write a Naver receipt review, you get a lottery ticket?? I wanted to win first prize, so I slowly wrote one, lol. Haha. Got my ticket! It's a wildflower ssambap place, so there are pretty flowers too.
We ate really well! I never knew there was such a good place near the Paju outlets. We'll have to come again!
