I was craving good bread, so I went to Chat Baker in Gongdo, Anseong. It has lots of kinds of bread plus a brunch menu, the space is big, and it's close to Anseong Farmland, so it looked like a good stop after a day out. Today I'll share the bread, coffee and bingsu (shaved ice dessert) I tried at Chat Baker.
Where is Chat Baker, and is there parking?

Chat Baker's atmosphere and seating
1st floor: big windows, high ceilings and varied seating

Chat Baker is a big café that uses both the 1st and 2nd floors.

It really lives up to the "large café in Pyeongtaek and Anseong" label: the inside is spacious and open. Plenty of light comes in through the big windows and the ceiling is high, so it feels airy rather than stuffy.

The tables are nicely spaced and there are different kinds of seats, like sofa seats and group seating, so it looked comfortable for families or groups to settle in.
2nd floor: floor seating and jazz decor

The 2nd floor also has a variety of seats, plus a floor seating area, so it looked fine for visiting with a child.

The café's name is said to be inspired by the jazz musician Chet Baker. There are LPs and jazz-related props around the shop, so it has a slightly different feel from an ordinary large bakery café.
What breads and brunch dishes does Chat Baker have?

Since I came for good bread, the bakery display caught my eye first, and there really was a huge variety.

They had salt bread, croissants, quignon-style pastries (queen amann), scones, sausage bread, pizza bread, campagne, ciabatta, cookies, baked sweets and cakes.

A notice said the bread is kneaded and baked fresh every day. They also say they use 100% milk butter with no artificial additives, which made it feel like a place that really cares about its bakery.

The meal and brunch menu was pretty varied too, with pasta, risotto, gnocchi and more. Next time I'd like to come right at lunchtime and try the brunch.
What we ordered at Chat Baker

That day I ordered an iced Americano, a handmade vanilla bean latte, snow patbingsu and a croissant.
🥐 Croissant: flaky layers and a gentle sweetness
Chat Baker's croissant is a pastry-style one with visible layers, and it went well with coffee. It had a subtle sweetness, and it seemed to have a slightly sweet glaze on the outside. There are so many kinds of bread that next time I'd like to try the salt bread and a few others, one each.
☕ Iced Americano & handmade vanilla bean latte
To drink with the bread I ordered an iced Americano and a handmade vanilla bean latte. The iced Americano was nice with buttery bread like the croissant.

The handmade vanilla bean latte wasn't too sweet either, so it worked fine alongside the bread.
🍨 How many people can share the snow patbingsu?
Chat Baker's snow patbingsu was a good amount for 3–4 people to share. Red beans, injeolmi (chewy rice cake) and nuts sat on top of finely shaved snow ice. There were plenty of beans and rice cake, so it was nicely sweet, and since it's snow ice the texture was fairly soft.

When I ordered I thought the bingsu was pricey, but when it arrived I was shocked at how much there was. I'd ordered thinking of a normal portion that we'd share, but it was much bigger than expected. It's a good amount to share when 3–4 people visit.
If you're planning to order bingsu like I did, I think you should size your bread and drinks with the bingsu in mind.
After visiting Chat Baker

Chat Baker has lots of kinds of bread and a big space, so it was a comfortable place to rest. Next time I'd like to come a bit earlier and try the brunch menu I missed this time.
