Sokcho beach restaurant with dip-style pork cutlet: Deungdae Gotgan

Deungdae Gotgan is a sea-view octopus restaurant on the 2nd floor on Yeongnang Haean-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon. On a second visit with a child, the writer skipped the spicy jjageul nakji (spicy octopus dish) for octopus hangover soup and a Korean-Western-style pork cutlet with the sauce on the side, used the self-serve bar and kids' tableware, then played in the sand at the beach right outside. For families visiting Sokcho who want both kid-friendly food and a sea view, Deungdae Gotgan is worth a return visit.

Gojan-dong, Ansan eel buffet where preschoolers eat free: Songnim Bok

Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel (송림복장어민물장어), Ansan City Hall branch, is an all-you-can-eat restaurant in Gojan-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi, where diners grill domestic freshwater eel over charcoal. For 29,900 won per person plus a 3,000 won table fee, diners take as much eel, pork belly and chicken neck as they like from the Songnim Bok Jangeo self-serve bar; preschool children eat free, and the restaurant served a complimentary bokbunja (Korean black raspberry wine). A couple and their child grilled four rounds of eel alone, and Songnim Bok Jangeo made a family dinner that satisfied on price, taste and quality.

Kid-friendly Gwacheon izakaya with an Anpanman pork cutlet: Horangigul

Horangigul Gwacheon Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya on Saesulmak-gil in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, specialising in beef gopchang (beef offal) hot pot. Dining with a child at a window-side table for four, the writer ordered the beef gopchang hot pot, a kids' Anpanman mini pork cutlet and smashed cucumber salad (oi tangtangi) by table QR code, then simmered the hot pot on a table timer. Because Horangigul Gwacheon Branch has a separate kids' menu, the family dinner left both the child and the adults happy.

Sokcho makguksu restaurant with a kids' set menu at 10 a.m.: Topgol

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is a perilla oil buckwheat noodle (makguksu) restaurant in an alley off Haeoreum-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon. Travelling with a child, the writer used Naver Reservation for a 10 a.m. brunch slot and ordered deulmemak (perilla oil buckwheat noodles), suyuk (boiled pork) and the kids' set menu with jjajang rice, and the mild, clean flavours meant even the child finished a full bowl. With a separate children's menu, Sokcho Topgol Makguksu is an easy choice for a family meal.

Namwirye shabu-shabu with tablet ordering and kids' cutlery: Dadam

Dadam Shabu Shabu & Wolnamssam Wirye Branch is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu and wolnamssam (Vietnamese rice paper roll) restaurant on the 3rd floor of G&G Plaza by Namwirye Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, with unlimited vegetables and meat. On this family dinner, tablet ordering at the table, a separate kids' spoon and fork set, springy eomuk (fish cake) and wolnamssam kept the meal easy with a child, and a husband who normally dislikes shabu-shabu was won over by the unlimited meat. Takeout plus coffee and ice cream for dessert make Dadam an easy choice for a family gathering.
