Jamsil Japanese restaurant sashimi set with grilled salmon: Susi Seon
In short
Susi Seon Bangi Branch (스시선 방이점) is a sushi and Japanese restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley near Jamsil in Songpa, Seoul, and has stayed in the same spot for 13 years. On a weekday evening, a solo diner ordered the sashimi set and was served a steady stream of dishes: vegetable porridge, salmon salad, flounder, salmon and tuna sashimi, 5 pieces of sushi, fish cake and mussel soup, grilled salmon, freshly fried whole shrimp tempura and flying fish roe maki. The Susi Seon Bangi Branch sashimi set is a fresh, generous, good-value Japanese course for eating alone.

What is Susi Seon Bangi Branch like?
Susi Seon Bangi Branch (스시선 방이점) is a sushi and Japanese restaurant in Jamsil's Bangi-dong food alley. It has run from the same spot for 13 years and has plenty of regulars. I found a place with great value where fresh fish is a given!

Sashimi, sushi, grilled fish, tempura and maki just kept coming in this set, and I left properly full. Here's my Susi Seon Bangi Branch story.
- Address: 37 Olympic-ro 32-gil, Songpa-gu, 1st floor
- Proven spot, running for 13 years
- Solo counter seats up to 8-person group seating
- Fresh fish and a perfect rice-to-fish ratio
Seating: can you go solo or in a group?
Susi Seon Bangi Branch has 2-person tables, 4-person tables, 8-person group seating and counter seats, so it works from solo meals to group gatherings. The interior feels comfortable and tidy, a classic Japanese restaurant vibe!

The seating was really well thought out. Besides 2- and 4-person tables, there's space for a group of 8, and counter seats where you can watch the chef at work.
I visited on a weekday evening and got a spacious spot to myself, but right after 6 o'clock, solo regulars from the neighborhood kept coming in for sushi 😳 Delivery alerts were going off constantly too. Okay, I believe it: this really is a place that's survived 13 years in one spot!

What comes first in the sashimi set?
When you order the sashimi set at Susi Seon Bangi Branch, warm veggie porridge and a salmon salad are set down first. The sashimi set (사시미정식) is what I ordered that day, and it's known for being generous ✨

The warm, nutty veggie porridge filled my empty stomach and settled it right away, haha

The salad that came with it was topped with fresh salmon and flounder and a generous sprinkle of popping flying fish roe. With the sweet and tangy sauce it even tasted a bit like hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl), and it really got my appetite going 🥹❤️
The sashimi set's main: how are the flounder, salmon and tuna sashimi?
The main of the sashimi set at Susi Seon Bangi Branch is flounder, salmon and tuna sashimi, sushi, and fish cake and mussel soup. The sashimi came out neatly and cleanly plated, and it passed on looks alone 👏

The slices were neither too thin nor too thick, just right, with a texture that really clings nicely in your mouth!

Salmon sashimi
I'd especially been craving salmon that day, and the quality was good and the texture springy ㅠㅠ Salmon is rich, so eating it with rakkyo (pickled scallions) was pure freshness 💡

Tuna and flounder
The best match for ginger is, of course, the rich tuna, haha. And the flounder got chewier the more I chewed, with a burst of savory flavor!

Fish cake and mussel soup instead of udon
I also loved that the broth served alongside wasn't the usual udon but a hot, refreshing fish cake and mussel soup!

Set sushi, 5 pieces
The sashimi set also includes 5 pieces of sushi. It's set sushi, so honestly I didn't expect much,, but the seasoning of the rice and the ratio to the fish were just right ><

Eating flounder, salmon and tuna as sushi gave a different texture from eating them as plain sashimi 🥹👍 You can feel the chef's care in every plate. I'm convinced this is a great Jamsil Japanese spot!
How were the grilled salmon and tempura in the second half?
Just when I thought it was over, the grilled fish and tempura of the sashimi set at Susi Seon Bangi Branch arrived. That day the grilled fish was salmon, and the tempura was whole shrimp, pepper and sweet potato.

The grilled salmon was so soft, crisp outside and juicy with oil inside, the real deal ㅠㅠ It flaked apart the moment my chopsticks touched it, and the richness was seriously delicious.

The tempura was impressive too: not ready-made frozen stuff, but real whole shrimp fried to order in the shop, with a crisp coating and a springy inside.

I personally love fried peppers, and they thoughtfully served pepper tempura plus sweet potato tempura, so the tempura lineup was perfect ✨

The finish: flying fish roe maki
The sashimi set at Susi Seon Bangi Branch ends with nostalgic flying fish roe maki (seaweed rolls). Crisp seaweed packed with rice, roe and radish sprouts, perfect to pop in your mouth in one bite as a palate cleanser, haha
From veggie porridge to salad, sashimi, sushi, fish cake soup, grilled fish, tempura and maki, the fish is fresh and the value is really excellent, so I'll come back whenever I want proper Japanese food in Jamsil!
Overall verdict on Susi Seon Bangi Branch
True to a shop that has held the same spot for 13 years, Susi Seon Bangi Branch nails freshness, generous portions and value! It's no pressure to go alone and eat a hearty solo Japanese meal, so next time I plan to come back and work through the tonkatsu and à la carte sushi, haha

If you're near Bangi-dong or Jamsil looking for high-quality, carefully made food, I recommend stopping by Susi Seon Bangi Branch, a good-value sushi and Japanese restaurant 🤍
